摘要： A gummer for a filter attachment machine comprises two rollers (10, 12), one of which is arranged to contact the web and the other of which is pressed against the first roller to limit the quantity of gum which is transmitted to the web from a pool of gum formed in the nip between the rollers. Gum is fed continuously into the pool at a position between the ends of the rollers at a rate in excess of the rate at which gum is applied to the web, from which position the gum flows towards the ends of the rollers. Means (15, 16, 50) are provided for collecting excess gum at the ends of the rollers and for returning it to a source (19) of the gum.

摘要： A filter attachment machine includes a fluted drum which is arranged to receive double filters and double cigarettes. A knife cuts the double cigarettes through the middle to form separate cigarette portions and, with the aid of a further drum, the two cigarette portions associated with each double filter are swopped in position so as to lie at opposite ends of the double filter, displacement of one of the cigarette portions being achieved preferably by displacing the associated double filter which in turn pushes the cigarette portion. The double cigarettes may be delivered axially into the flutes of the first drum from a cigarette making machine, preferably after delivery of the double filters which can then serve as resilient buffers for the incoming double cigarettes.

摘要： Apparatus for conveying rod-like articles, especially cigarettes, includes parallel opposed conveyors for delivering articles to a downwardly-extending junction provided with an arrangement for priming the junction such as a pivoted plate or retractable conveyor bands. The stream on one of the opposed conveyors may be delivered from a further conveyor by a rotary disc transfer conveyor which turns articles through 180.degree. for delivery to the one conveyor. The further conveyor may be parallel to the opposed conveyors or may be mounted at an adjustable small angle to them. The apparatus is particularly useful for tip-turning of cigarettes at the exit of a filter cigarettes assembling machine.

摘要： Cigarettes are fed from the rod line into a laterally moving fluted drum (1) by a rotating snail cam having a cigarette contacting surface (5) of constant radius over part of its length (arc A) and of increasing radius over a further part (arc B). The cigarettes are accelerated lengthwise over arc (A) with suction being applied to grip the cigarettes, and afterwards sideways acceleration is imparted to the cigarettes over arc (B) while the leading end of each cigarette is being displaced sideways at the same speed by the trailing wall 2b of the flute (2) receiving the cigarette.In an alternative construction in which the cigarettes are deflected by a wheel having helical grooves formed in its peripheral surface, a straight portion is provided at the start of each groove to impart only linear acceleration to the cigarettes.

摘要： This invention is concerned with a cutting head for a cigarette filter attachment machine, for cutting a filter attachment web at regular intervals in cooperation with a cutting drum, comprising a rotary member which carries one or more knives, an arrangement for urging the rotary member towards the cutting drum with a predetermined force, and a damping member arranged to resist movement of the rotary member towards the cutting drum, at least along part of the range of such movement. Each end of the rotary member is preferably supported by a separately movable carrier member, each carrier member having its own urging arrangement and its own damping member. The or each damping member may comprise a dashpot or a rubber pad or sleeve.

摘要： In a conveying system for a stream of rod-like articles in multi-layer stack formation, in which system the stream is moved along a path which is curved in a generally horizontal plane, suction is applied to the hub (30) of a turntable (10) for the stream, in order to draw the ends of the articles (16) against the hub and thereby help to maintain alignment of the articles during conveyance on the turntable. Further control, particularly for the uppermost articles, may be provided by a series of bristles (44) urged into contact with the articles on the turntable (10) by a guide rod (46). The system may be usefully employed in a filter cigarette assembling machine, for turning one of two streams of filter cigarettes issuing from the machine so that it may be merged with the other stream with the filter ends of the cigarettes in the two streams facing in the same direction.

摘要： A cigarette making machine includes at least one transfer wheel for transferring the filler stream onto the wrapper web, and air guide vanes extending in approximately tangential directions towards the transfer wheel. As a result, the vanes arrest any particles of tobacco which fly off the wheel, and air streams induced by the suction in the wheel tend to return the particles to the wheel with a forward component of motion.
