Abstract: The present invention relates to feed compositions that can modify the feeding behavior of animals. Supplements can be added to no or low roughage rations that improve the performance of animals. In particular, the addition of calcium chloride to a low or no roughage ration can increase the number of feedings but decrease the amount of feeding per meal. This can result in promoting enhances feed conversion and better cost of feed to weight gain.

Abstract: A natural hydrocolloid system can be used in, e.g., pet food compositions. Another aspect of the present disclosure is pet food compositions comprising such a natural hydrocolloid system, and preparation methods thereof. The hydrocolloid system can use blends of fruit fibers, such as citrus and apple fibers, and/or plant-based polysaccharides, such as psyllium, okra, chia, flaxseed, or seaweed; and can provide a gravy and even a jelly with functionalities comparable to the existing gravies. The blends can replace currently used hydrocolloids and can be used in new recipes with natural and clean labels.

Abstract: The present invention is located in the field of industrial biotechnology and sustainable agriculture, referring to a process of renewable origin for the production of fertilizer from by-products of animal origin, with an innovative raw material, animal blood in natura. The invention aims at the use of raw materials such as animal blood, both in natura form and in the form of blood meal, also considering a synergistic mixture of blood meal with in natura blood, to obtain fertilizers with innovative characteristics. The synergy promoted by the stages of the developed process, combined with the qualities of the selected raw materials, promoted the development of products with high levels of free natural amino acids, total organic carbon and organic matter. The developed fertilizer product can be applied in liquid form, as a liquid fertilizer, both in soil and in foliar form, as well as in solid form, after the introduction of a drying step at the end of processing. The product adds, depending on the chemical composition obtained, both fertilizer and soil conditioning agent characteristics. The invention results in sustainable products with high added value.

Abstract: A method for treating a forage to increase digestibility by a ruminant comprises providing a forage for a ruminant comprising a level of ammonia that is from 0.0% to about 1.4% of dry matter (wt/wt). An alkali is applied at a dosage of from about 0.25% to about 0.75% of dry matter (wt/wt) to the forage. At least one exogenous carbohydrase enzyme is applied to the forage after application of the alkali and the forage is subsequently fed to the ruminant.

Abstract: The invention relates to self-assembling microparticles comprising a solid matrix and probiotic bacteria, wherein the solid matrix comprises soybean protein and a divalent or trivalent metal, and wherein the probiotic bacteria are distributed throughout the solid matrix; said matrix protects said probiotic bacteria during processing, storage, as well as during transit through the gastrointestinal tract, thus prolonging their lifetime and facilitating release into the intestine and improving their probiotic effect.
