Abstract: A computer system for mapping coatings to a spatial appearance space may receive coating spatial appearance variables of a target coating from a coating-measurement instrument. The computer system may generate spatial appearance space coordinates for the target coating by mapping each of the coating spatial appearance variables to an individual axis of a multidimensional coordinate system. The computer system may identify particular spatial appearance space coordinates from the identified spatial appearance space coordinates associated with the potentially matching reference coatings that are associated with a smallest spatial-appearance-space distance from the spatial appearance space coordinates of the target coating. Further, the computer system may display a visual interface element indicating a particular reference coating that is associated with the particular spatial appearance space coordinates as a proposed spatial appearance match to the target coating.

Abstract: Graphenic carbon nanoparticles that are dispersed in solvents through the use of dispersant resins are disclosed. The graphenic carbon nanoparticles may be milled prior to dispersion. The dispersant resins may comprise a polymeric dispersant resin comprising an addition polymer comprising the residue of a vinyl heterocyclic amide, an addition polymer comprising a homopolymer, a block (co)polymer, a random (co)polymer, an alternating (co)polymer, a graft (co)polymer, a brush (co)polymer, a star (co)polymer, a telechelic (co)polymer, or a combination thereof. The solvents may be aqueous, non-aqueous, inorganic and/or organic solvents. The dispersions are highly stable and may contain relatively high loadings of the graphenic carbon nanoparticles.

Abstract: A coating composition includes (a) a melamine resin having imino and methylol functional groups that together comprise 30 mole % or greater of the total functionality of the melamine resin; and (b) at least one polymer reactive with (a) that is obtained from components including polytetrahydrofuran and a carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof. The polytetrahydrofuran includes greater than 20 weight % of the components that form the polymer (b) and the carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof includes greater than 5 weight % of the components that form the polymer (b). The polymer (b) has an acid value of at least 15 based on the total resin solids of the polymer (b).
