摘要: The invention relates to a microfluidic dye laser including a pump light source configured to provide light having a pump light wavelength. The microfluidic dye laser also includes an elastomer substantially optically transparent at the pump light wavelength and at a microfluidic dye laser wavelength. A microfluidic channel configured to accept a fluidic dye is defined in the elastomer. An optical grating is formed in a single mode 3D waveguide in the microfluidic channel in order to provide a single mode microfluidic dye laser light as output in response to illumination with light from the pump light source. In another aspect, the invention features a method of tuning a wavelength of a microfluidic dye laser light by mechanically deforming the elastomeric laser chip to change the grating period in the optical cavity.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for mechanical cell lysis with single cell resolution which requires very low applied pressure. The device can be handheld, simple to operate, requires no external power except for hand-applied pressure via a syringe, and is applicable to all cell types including yeast and bacterial cells. The device is also capable of mechanically lysing a single cell. A single cell is selected from a biological sample of interest. The single cell is lysed by application of mechanical stress in a single cell lysing apparatus having a trap structure for deterministically capturing the cell and a stress raiser that cooperates with a source of mechanical stress so as to apply sufficient force to rupture a cell. The stress raiser can be a properly designed edge of the trap or it can be a lithographically produced structure such as a nanoblade or a nanopillar.

摘要: A system and method can support dynamically scaling up/down transactional resources in a transactional middleware machine environment. Transactional resources, such as groups and machines, can be by added or removed using a dynamic resource broker according to resource usage changes. The transactional middleware machine environment can comprise a deployment center in the transactional middleware machine environment, wherein the deployment center maintains one or more deployment policies for the transactional middleware machine environment and one or more deployment agents. Each of the one or more deployment agents is associated with a transactional middleware machine of a plurality of transactional middleware machines in a transactional domain in the transactional middleware machine environment. The deployment center operates to receive machine usage information from the one or more deployment agents, and dynamically scale up/down resources used in the transactional domain based on the resource usage information collected by the one or more deployment agents.

摘要: A common rail fuel injector includes a needle valve member that moves to open and close nozzle outlets for a fuel injection event responsive to pressure in a needle control chamber. Between injection events, the needle control chamber is fluidly connected to the fuel inlet by a first pathway that includes a Z orifice, and fluidly connected to the fuel inlet by a second pathway that includes an F orifice, an intermediate chamber and an A orifice. During an injection event, the needle control chamber is fluidly connected to a drain outlet by a third pathway that includes the A orifice, the intermediate chamber an E orifice and a buffer chamber, which may assist in avoiding cavitation erosion in a sensitive area associated with a flat control valve seat. Different performance characteristics are achieved by adjusting the sizes of the respective of F, A, Z and E orifices.

摘要: A pump and rail assembly includes a plurality of quills that are compressed between quill seats on a pump and an output rail. A rail pressure control valve and a rail pressure sensor are attached to respective ends of the output rail. An inlet throttle valve is attached to a housing of the pump and rail assembly. Depending upon the application, the output rail may supply fuel to a first injection bank that includes a plurality of fuel injectors in a first common rail, and a second fuel injection bank that includes a second common rail and a plurality of fuel injectors. Different engines having different numbers of cylinders may use similar pump and rail assemblies that each include a plurality of quills, a plurality of pumping elements positioned in a pump housing and an output rail. The quills for each of the different engine applications are interchangeable but differ in number. In addition, the pumping elements of each of the different engine applications are also interchangeable but differ in number.

摘要: A system and method can support accurate load balancing in a transactional middleware machine environment with a plurality of transactional middleware machines. A service response time table can be maintained on each transactional middleware machine in the transactional middleware machine environment, wherein said service response time table is adaptive to be used by a client on the transactional middleware machine to make routing decisions for a service request. The transactional middleware machine environment can further include a plurality of synchronization servers, with each said synchronization server associated with a transactional middleware machine in the transactional middleware machine environment. The plurality of synchronization servers operates to periodically synchronize the service response time table on each said transactional middleware machine in the transactional middleware machine environment.
