ABOUT TWELVE PERCENT OF THE INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE CHIMNEY. TO CLEAN THE PORTION OF THE INLET CONDUIT WHICH EXTENDS INTO THE ATOMIZING HOUSING, A WIRE AND TUBE ASSEMBLY IS MOVABLY POSITIONED WITH RESPECT TO THE HOUSING, SUCH THAT THE WIRE MAY BE INSERTED WITHIN THE CONDUIT PORTION WHILE THE TUBE SURROUNDS THE CONDUIT TO PROVIDE SUPPORT. IN SOME EMBODIMENTS THIS CLEANING IS ACCOMPLISHED AUTOMATICALLY IN REPSONSE TO THE CHANGING OF THE SAMPLE.
AN ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENT INCLUDING AN ATOMIZER-BURNER AND A DETECTION SYSTEM FOR THE QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE EMISSION OR ABSORPTION ANALYSIS OF A SAMPLE. THE SAMPLE IS INTRODUCED THROUGH AN INLET CONDUIT INTO A HOUSING AND IS ATOMIZED AND MIXED WITH AN APPROPRIATE FUEL GAS. THE MIXTURE IS LED THROUGH AN ANGULARLY DISPOSED BURNER BARREL AND A FLUID DISCHARGE OPENING TO A GRID FOR HOLDING THE FLAME. A CHIMNEY IS SUPPORTED IN SPACED RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DISCHARGE OPENING SUCH THAT THE SPACING BETWEEN THE CHIMNEY AND THE WALL WHICH FORMS THE OPENING PREFERABLY IS NOT LESS THAN ABOUT SIX PERCENT AND NOT GREATER THAN
Abstract:
A monochromator having curved entrance and exit slits and a pair of curved diagonal mirrors respectively positioned a short distance in front of and in back of an intermediate dispersed image. The dispersed light is successively reflected by the two curved mirrors to reverse the sense of the dispersion without reversing the curvature of the image. In several advantageous embodiments the diagonal mirrors are interposed between two grating monochromators which are oriented in different planes and are arranged in additive relationship with each other. The grating magnification or reduction of the first monochromator is off-set by the grating magnification or reduction of the second monochromator, and the final slit image is substantially free from aberrations at all grating angles and at all points even along comparatively long slits.

AN ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENT INCLUDING A FLAME SOURCE AND A DETECTION SYSTEM FOR THE QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE EMISSION OR ABSORPTION ANALYSIS OF A SAMPLE. THE SAMPLE IS ATOMIZED AND MIXED WITH AN APPROPRIATE FUEL GAS, AND THE MIXTURE IS LED THROUGH AN ANGULARLY DISPOSED BURNER BARREL TO A GRID FOR HOLDING THE FLAME. COMPRESSED AIR IS SUPPLIED TO THE ATOMIZER, AND A PORTION OF THE AIR IS DIRECTED TO A VENTURI NOZZLE WHICH IS CONNECTED TO A SUPPLY OF THE FUEL GAS. THE AIR IS EFFECTIVE TO DRAW THE FUEL GAS THROUGH THE VENTURI AND INTO THE ATOMIZER AT A SUBSTANTIALLY CONSTANT RATE IRRESPECTIVE OF PRESSURE FLUCTUATIONS IN A GAS SUPPLY. THE INSTRUMENT ADDITIONALLY INCLUDES A SCREEN AND BAFFLE CONSTRUCTION WITHIN THE ANGULARLY EXTENDING BARREL WHICH IS EFFECTIVE TO DIRECT LARGE DROPLETS OF SAMPLE MATERIAL AWAY FROM THE BARREL INLETS.
