Abstract: In a method for learning a mapping used by a computer, the mapping calculates a probability related to a categorization result using an internal combustion engine state variable as an input. The categorization result is a result of categorizing a state of an internal combustion engine into one of regions. The computer outputs the categorization result based on the calculated probability. The method includes inputting multiple training data to a training computer. The training data include the internal combustion engine state variable and the categorization result that is correct and associated with the internal combustion engine state variable. The method further includes updating the mapping based on the training data with the training computer. The training data are distributed to the regions and have a distribution density that is increased at locations closer to a border between the regions.

Abstract: At the time of stopping operation of the vehicle, the pressures inside of the fuel tank (5) and inside of the canister (6) detected at every constant time are stored in the storage device. A learned neural network using the pressures inside the fuel tank (5) and inside the canister (6) for each fixed time stored in the storage device and the atmospheric pressure as input parameters of the neural network and using a case where perforation occurs in the system causing fuel vapor to leak as a truth label is stored. At the time of stopping operation of the vehicle, a perforation abnormality causing fuel vapor to leak is detected from these input parameters by using the learned neural network.

Abstract: A state detection system for an internal combustion engine is provided. A detection mapping takes, as inputs, rotation waveform variables and a road surface state variable to output a combustion state variable. The rotation waveform variables include information on a difference between cylinders in the rotational speed NE of a crankshaft during periods in which the respective cylinders generate combustion torque. The combustion state variable relates to a level of variations in combustion state among the cylinders. A determination process performed by an execution device determines whether the internal combustion engine is in a predetermined operating state based on an output value of the detection mapping that takes, as inputs, values of the rotation waveform variables and a value of the road surface state variable.
