Abstract: Embodiments of a method for handling a quota(s) for a network slice that supports interworking between first and second cellular communications systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises, at a first Network Function (NF), receiving a message associated to: registration or attachment of a User Equipment (UE) with the first cellular communications system for a particular network slice that supports interworking, registration or attachment of the UE with the second cellular communications system for the particular network slice, establishment of a session in the first cellular communications system for the particular network slice, or establishment of a session in the second cellular communications system for the particular network slice. The method further comprises, at the first NF, determining that a quota check is needed and performing a procedure to check the quota for the particular network slice and, if needed, update an associated count.

Abstract: Systems and methods for inhomogeneous slice support are provided. In some embodiments, a wireless device: signals an indication that it supports non-uniform slice availability and receives an information on how it may act based on the indicated slice support. In this way, some embodiments allow the Radio Access Network (RAN) and/or CN to correctly handle legacy and new UE types in a system where new UEs may be able to support non uniform slice availability. These may enable the CN to manage the legacy UEs in a way that their legacy behavior does not create unnecessary slice requests, e.g., for slices that are not available in a given cell. These systems and methods may allow new UEs to be configured with information for allowed slices that are not uniformly available, and that the UE may access upon detection of information expressing availability of such slices in a given cell/Tracking Area.

Abstract: Systems and methods for handling of heterogeneous support for Slice Maximum Bit Rate (S-MBR) enforcement are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method performed in a core network of a cellular communications system comprises, at an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), obtaining information about whether a Radio Access Network (RAN) node supports S-MBR enforcement and sending, to a Session Management Function (SMF), a message that comprises an indication of whether the RAN node supports S-MBR enforcement. The method further comprises, at the SMF, sending, to a Policy and Control Function (PCF), a message that comprises an indication of whether the RAN node supports S-MBR enforcement. The method further comprises, at the PCF, making a determination of whether to apply a mechanism to enforce S-MBR for Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session of a wireless communication device on a network slice based on the received indication, and operating accordingly.

Abstract: Methods for determining a default network slice are provided. More specifically, the methods include determining a default Single Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (S-NSSAI) that identifies the default network slice for establishing a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session for an application in a wireless device without an S-NSSAI association. Various embodiments for determining the S-NSSAI are also disclosed herein. By determining the default network slice, it is possible to eliminate existing ambiguity associated with establishing a PDU session for application without S-NSSAI association, thus helping to reduce implementation complexity in a wireless device and/or a core network node.

Abstract: A method by a core network node of a core network of a wireless communication system for authenticating a user equipment, UE, to the core network includes receiving a first authentication request to authenticate the UE to the core network, determining that the UE should be authenticated by an external authentication entity that is external to the wireless communication system, transmitting a second authentication request to the external authentication entity, the second authentication request identifying the UE, receiving an authentication response from the external authentication entity verifying authenticity of the UE, the authentication response including a master key, and deriving a first key for securing communications with the UE from the master key.

Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method in a mobility management node (108) for handling overload in a communications network (100). When overload in the communications network (100) has been detected, the mobility management node (108) receives information indicating at least one blocked IP address to which access should be blocked. The mobility management node (108) receives a communication request message from a UE (101) via a RAN node (105). The communication request message is a request for communication by the UE (101). The mobility management node (108) determines that the UE's (101) request for communication should be rejected when the UE (101) is associated with a blocked IP address.
