摘要: An aspect of the present invention is an optical element that combines light waves using a spatial optical system, including a housing section, an optical waveguide element, a combine section, and a collimator section is provided. The housing section has a storage space and is formed by joining two or more members together. The optical waveguide element is provided in the storage space and emits at least two light waves. The combine section is provided outside the storage space and combines the light waves emitted from the optical waveguide element outside the housing section using a spatial optical system. The collimator section is connected to the housing section, holds the combine section, and includes a light focusing section configured to focus a light wave combined by the combine section and an optical fiber to which the light wave focused by the light focusing section is introduced.

摘要: An object is to provide an optical modulator in which a light receiving element is disposed on a substrate configuring the optical modulator and which is capable of suppressing a decrease in the frequency bandwidth of the light receiving element even in a case in which two radiated lights from a combining part in a Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide are received and monitored at the same time. The optical modulator includes a substrate 1, an optical waveguide including a Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide formed in the substrate, and a modulation electrode (not illustrated) for modulating light waves that propagate through the optical waveguide, alight receiving element 5 is disposed to bridge over an output waveguide 24 configuring the Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide so as to receive two radiated lights being radiated from a combining part in the Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide, and, in the light receiving element, two or more light receiving areas (51 and 52) are formed apart from each other on a substrate of light receiving element 55.

摘要: An optical element module includes an optical modulation element having first and second optical modulator units, a polarization combining means for combining two modulated lights which are emitted from the first and second optical modulator units, by making planes of polarization orthogonally cross each other; a housing which houses the optical modulation element and the polarization combining means; and a lens holder which holds a collimating lens which is disposed between the polarization combining means and an optical fiber, with the lens holder further holding the optical fiber. The optical element module is configured by joining the housing and the lens holder together by welding. In the lens holder, an outer diameter of a welding place is smaller than an outer diameter of a part which holds the collimating lens.

摘要: An optical modulator includes a substrate having an electro-optic effect, an optical waveguide formed on the substrate, a modulation part which modulates light waves propagating through the optical waveguide, and a light receiving element which detects the light waves propagating through the optical waveguide. As the modulation part, a first modulation part and a second modulation part, which respectively modulate light waves into which input light branches, are provided. As the light receiving element, a light receiving element for the first modulation part and a light receiving element for the second modulation part are provided. The light receiving elements are disposed such that their positions in a light propagation direction are shifted from each other by an amount corresponding to one light receiving element, or more.

摘要: An aspect of the present invention is an optical modulator, comprising a waveguide substrate and a multiplexing optical system. The waveguide substrate includes a first modulation portion, a second modulation, a first optical path and a second optical path. The multiplexing optical system includes a first surface and a second surface. First output light output from the first optical path and second output light output from the second optical path are input from the first surface and are output after there are combined at a combining point of the second surface. An optical path length between the first surface and the combining point in the first output light is larger than that of in the second output light. An optical path length between the first modulation portion and the first surface and an optical path length between the second modulation portion and the first surface are different.

摘要: Provided is an optical pulse-generator capable of efficiently using by a low driving voltage an entire band of an optical frequency comb input to a chirp compensator for the formation of an optical pulse. According to a graph shown in FIG. 4, dispersion compensation amounts (dispersion characteristics) necessary for a chirp (dispersion) compensator to efficiently compress an optical frequency comb which sinusoidally changes become an inverse of a parabolic coefficient. It is found that the dispersion compensation amount required at the center frequency is 2/π of that of a chirp being approximate to a linear chirp, and the required dispersion compensation amount increases as the frequency shift increases.
