摘要: Optoelectronic transducers that convert a femtosecond (fs)-timescale laser pulse into an a.c. electrical current pulse with an extremely high frequency and a high quality factor (Q) are provided. Both the frequency and amplitude of the a.c. electrical current pulse can be dynamically tuned by the application of a varying bias magnetic field. The optoelectronic transducers are based on a trilayered freestanding membrane that functions as both an acoustic cavity and a magnon cavity. The freestanding membrane includes an electrical conductor layer, a magnetic insulator layer, and a dielectric layer arranged in a vertical stack.

摘要: Integrated optical filter and photodetectors and methods of fabrication thereof are described herein according to the present disclosure. An example of an integrated optical filter and photodetector described herein includes a substrate, an insulator layer on the substrate, and a semiconductor layer on the insulator layer. An optical filter having a resonant cavity is formed in or on the semiconductor layer. The integrated optical filter and photodetector further includes two first metal fingers and a second metal finger interdigitated between the two first metal fingers on the semiconductor layer forming Schottky barriers. The first metal fingers are constructed from a different metal relative to the second metal finger.

摘要: A wavelength shifting fiber and method of making the same is disclosed. A wavelength shifting fiber can include a plastic core; and a coating surrounding the plastic core. The wavelength shifting fiber has an optical attenuation length of at least 500 cm. A method of making a wavelength shifting fiber can include storing a plastic core precursor and cladding melt preform in an environment containing an inert gas; and drawing the plastic core precursor and cladding melt preform to form a wavelength shifting fiber, wherein drawing is performed under tension of less than 77 g/mm2 and more than 40 g/mm2, and where the wavelength shifting fiber comprises an attenuation length of at least 500 cm.

摘要: An electro-optic combiner includes a polarization splitter and rotator (PSR) that directs a portion of incoming light having a first polarization through a first optical waveguide (OW). The PSR rotates a portion of the incoming light having a second polarization to the first polarization to provide polarization-rotated light. The PSR directs the polarization-rotated light through a second OW. Each of the first and second OW's has a respective combiner section. The first and second OW combiner sections extend parallel to each other and have opposite light propagation directions. A plurality of ring resonators is disposed between the combiner sections of the first and second OW's and within an evanescent optically coupling distance of both the first and second OW's. Each of ring resonators operates at a respective resonant wavelength to optically couple light from the combiner section of the first OW into the combiner section of the second OW.

摘要: A method and system for locking the resonance frequency of ring resonators by using laser sources to emit a plurality of different wavelengths, applying a tagging signal to each of the wavelengths, multiplexing the tagged wavelengths using a wavelength division multiplexor, coupling the multiplexed tagged wavelengths onto a bus waveguide, detecting the multiplexed tagged wavelengths with a first photodetector disposed before a first ring resonator and a second photodetector disposed after a last ring resonator of a plurality of ring resonators, sending the signals detected by the first and second photodetector to a processor, which identifies and processes the tagging signals, generating a control signal for each ring resonator, by the processor and applying the control signals to phase shifters on each ring resonator of the plurality of ring resonators to tune and align the resonance wavelengths of the ring resonators with the wavelengths of the corresponding laser sources.

A second optical waveguide is disposed to in-couple the first portion of incoming light and the second portion of incoming light couple from the ring resonator, such that the first portion of incoming light and the second portion of incoming light travel in opposite directions within the second optical waveguide away from the ring resonator. One or more photodetector(s) are optically connected to receive the first portion of incoming light and the second portion of incoming light from the second optical waveguide.
