A method and system for determining a set of dye-normalization microarray probes that consistently hybridize to approximately the same number of target molecules in a wide range of sample solutions. The method of one embodiment of the method of the present invention generates a set of candidate probe molecules. The set of candidate probe molecules are arrayed on one or more replicate microarrays. Sample solutions are made from one or more tissues of one or more species. Microarray-base hybridization assays are conducted by using the replicate microarrays and different sample solutions. A subset of the candidate probe molecules that are functional for the microarray-base hybridization assays are determined.

Board level conditions associated with the operation of multiple LEDs are sensed and used to control a driver that powers the LEDs. The driver is controlled via a 0-10V control interface. The board-level conditions include, but are not limited to, temperature, ambient light, light intensity, operating time, time of day, current, and voltage. An on-board intelligent (OBI) controller processes the 0-10V control signal before it is provided to the driver to better control the LEDs. In some systems the OBI controller works in conjunction with a separate 0-10V controller that controls one or more luminaires.

Based on the selected set of features, a surface is used to determine the intensities for all features in each channel of the microarray data set. Spatial-intensity trends within the microarray data set are quantified, based on the surface to the intensities for each channel of the microarray data set. After the surface has been determined, the spatial-intensity trend can be removed from the microarray data set.

A method of insulating pipeline bundles used in recovering hydrocarbons from wells is disclosed. A polymeric substance, such as an orthphosphate ester, is injected into the annulus between a carrier pipe and the hydrocarbon conveying tubulars. A ferric salt, such as ferric sulphate, may be added as a gelling agent. The mixture results in a gel having a dynamic viscosity of greater than (1000) PaS. The gel insulates the inner hydrocarbon-conveying tubulars from the surrounding seawater thus helping to maintain the relatively high temperature therewithin. This in turn reduces the likelihood for chemicals, such as hydrates, to be precipitated out of the oil phase.
