摘要: Systems and methods for estimating power consumption in a network of computing devices are described. Operational information of a target server is periodically received and compared to benchmark data of a model of the target server. The operational information comprises performance data of the target server during a predefined time interval. Power consumption of the target server is estimated using the performance and benchmark data. The benchmark data is recalibrated if an error in the estimated power consumption is detected. An agent installed on the target server for collecting performance data is described. The target server can be a virtualized server, in which case, the agent acquires at least some of the performance data from a hypervisor of a physical server that hosts the target server.

摘要: The invention resides in the innovative use of deposition techniques in deformable mirrors. The use of deposition techniques allows contact pads for electrodes to be located wherever convenient. When applied to bimorph mirrors the invention enables both electro-restrictive layers to become active, increasing the stroke of the deformable mirror whilst retaining temperature insensitivity. A controllably-deformable mirror according to the invention comprises a deposition layer; a first electro-restrictive plate; a mirror surface; and a plurality of electrodes comprising a set of electrodes defined as regions on a first surface of the first electro-restrictive plate, the set of electrodes comprising a first electrode and a second electrode; and a common electrode on a second surface of the first electro-restrictive plate.

摘要: A cargo closure for sealing a cargo item such as a piece of luggage in a closed condition is disclosed. The cargo closure comprises a permanently closable tie and a data carrying member which may be formed as an integral plastics molding. The tie includes a strap and a base member. The strap includes barbs which engage a flexible pawl member located within a hole through the base member through which a free end of the strap is inserted and tightened after being attached to the cargo. The data carrying member may carry a person's name and address and is foldable to selectively to conceal or expose those data, and it may also carry an alphanumeric string or a bar code for identification purposes. Other embodiments of the invention may include strips of conductive material in the tie and base member which are connected to a smart card attached to the data carrying member for communicating with electronic equipment on the cargo item.

摘要: This invention concerns improvements relating to a deformable-mirror holder for holding a mirror in a desired position, to within accepted tolerances, even whilst the mirror is deforming or in a deformed state. More particularly but not exclusively, this invention relates to a holder for a bimorph mirror. A deformable mirror holder (31) is provided comprising a body with a receiving portion for receiving a deformable mirror (30), and wherein the receiving portion is defined by a passive flexible support structure (41) such that, in use, to the support structure provides a supporting surface to the mirror. This invention extends to a deformable mirror and a deformable mirror holder as described above.
