An accessory apparatus and an information display method are provided. The accessory apparatus include a housing, a display exposed through a first portion of the housing, a conductive pattern, a wireless communication circuit configured to support a short-range wireless communication protocol, at least one processor, and a memory, wherein the memory stores instructions that allow the at least one processor to control the wireless communication circuit to operate in the first mode, operate in the second mode in which the second type of external electronic device is allowed to read the second data for the second time period following the first time period, detect the existence of the second type of external electronic device at one or more points of time in the first time period, and switch into the second mode when the existence of the second type of external electronic device is detected.

The apparatus may include, a housing having a first and second side, a coupling member that detachably couples the housing to an external electronic device, a first conductive pattern, positioned between the first side and the second side, to receive a first RF signal from the external electronic device through a second side, a second conductive pattern, positioned between the first and second side and electrically separated from the first conductive pattern, to receive the first RF signal through the second side, a wireless communication circuit to receive the first RF signal through the first conductive pattern, a power management circuit, connected with the second conductive pattern, to extract power from the first RF signal to generate a second RF signal, and a display element, connected with the wireless communication circuit, supplied with power contained in the second RF signal.

An electronic device, an accessory device, and a method of authenticating an accessory device are provided. The electronic device includes a detection sensor that detects connection of an accessory device, an Radio Frequency (RF) module that transmits and receives a radio-frequency signal, and a processor that makes a control to transmit an authentication request signal through the RF module when the connection of the accessory device is detected, and performs authentication with the accessory device when an authentication request response signal is received from the accessory device.
