Abstract: An apparatus includes a substrate, first and second transmission lines on the substrate, first antenna elements coupled to a first-first transmission line, and second antenna elements coupled to a first-second transmission line. A first distance between the adjacent first-first and first-second transmission lines is different than a second distance between the first-first transmission line and a second-second transmission line, the second-second transmission line adjacent to the first-first transmission line on an opposite side from the first-second transmission line. At least two antenna elements in the first antenna elements are differently sized.

Abstract: A wearable wireless communication device comprises a transceiver positioned on a first side of the device, the transceiver comprising a first antenna configured to receive radio frequency (RF) signals transmitted toward the first side of the device. The device is wearable about an object that attenuates reception, by the first antenna, of RF signals transmitted toward a second side of the device. The device further comprises a waveguide electromagnetically coupled to the transceiver, the waveguide terminating in at least a second antenna positioned on the second side of the device. The second antenna is configured to receive the RF signals transmitted toward the second side of the device. The waveguide is shaped to direct received RF signals around the object to the transceiver. The object may in some embodiments be a piece of human anatomy.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a substrate and a plurality of antenna elements on the substrate and arranged according to an antenna configuration. The antenna configuration includes a rectangular antenna patch, and first and second pairs of circular antenna patches. The first pair of circular antenna patches supports a first angular polarization, wherein the circular antenna patches of the first pair are coupled to opposite corners of the rectangular antenna patch. The second pair of circular antenna patches supports a second angular polarization that is orthogonal to the first angular polarization, wherein the antenna patches of the second pair are coupled to opposite corners of the rectangular antenna patch, wherein each of the antenna patches of the first pair are positioned on corners adjacent to both of the antenna patches of the second pair.
