Abstract: Toner particles comprise resin, wax and optionally colorants, and the wax is substantially excluded from the interior core of the toner particles. Processes for preparing such toner particles comprise providing an aqueous dispersion of resin particles and optionally colorants, mixing the aqueous dispersion in presence of a coagulant, aggregating to form particles, coalescing to form fused particles, and removing the fused particles from the aqueous dispersion. Wax dispersions can be added either after mixing or during aggregation, so that wax is excluded from the core of the toner particles.

Abstract: A toner that is emulsion aggregation toner particles having an acrylate-containing polymer binder and at least one colorant has an average particle size of from about 5.0 μm to about 6.7 μm and an average circularity of about 0.950 to about 0.970. The toner preferably is comprised of styrene-butyl acrylate binder and gel. The toner preferably exhibits a transfer efficiency of about 0.8-1.0, a developability of about 0.3 to about 1.5 mg/cm2, and a charge to diameter ratio (q/d) of about −0.7 to about −0.1 fC/micron. A developer containing the toner and a method of forming an image using the toner are also described.

Abstract: An encapsulation process including: (a) creating a heterogeneous mixture comprised of: (i) a continuous phase comprising a first liquid; and (ii) a disperse phase comprising a plurality of particle containing droplets including a second liquid and a particle component, wherein the second liquid is immiscible with the first liquid, thereby resulting in an interface between each of the droplets and the first liquid; (b) adding an amphiphile prior to or during formation of the heterogeneous mixture to minimize re-association of the droplets, wherein the molecules of the amphiphile spontaneously orient around each of the droplets at the interface to form a micelle shell around each of the particle containing droplets; and (c) polymerizing the micelle shell to form a polymerized micelle shell.

Abstract: The toner described herein contains toner particles containing polymer, colorant and cross-linked polymer. The cross-linked polymer is incorporated at least in the shell of the toner particles. Incorporating cross-linked polymer in the shell of the toner particles provide bumps in the surface of the toner particles. These bumps can behave as spacers. Such toner can be formed by aggregating at least polymer particles and colorant particles to form core particles; aggregating at least cross-linked polymer particles to the surface of the core particles; and coalescing the resulting particles to form toner particles.
