Abstract: A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a number of uplink grants from a base station. The method further includes estimating a payload size for data to be transmitted from a UE buffer for a number of logical channels. The payload size corresponds to a sum of a number of data bytes to be transmitted and an amount of overhead bytes to be transmitted. The method still further includes determining a subset of the number of uplink grants to use for uplink transmission based on reducing a total padding size associated with transmitting the payload size, for each combination of the number of uplink grants. The method also includes transmitting the data from the UE buffer within a number of transport blocks, to the base station. The number of transport blocks corresponds to the subset of the number of uplink grants.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for prioritizing data packets when stateful compression is enabled for wireless communications is disclosed. For example, the aspects include receiving a plurality of data packets scheduled in a first order for transmission. The described aspects further include prioritizing one or more data packets of the plurality of data packets as one or more prioritized data packets, each prioritized data packet being scheduled in an order for transmission different from the first order for transmission. The described aspects further include compressing one or more unprioritized data packets of the plurality of data packets into one or more compressed unprioritized data packets. The described aspects further include scheduling the one or more prioritized data packets and the one or more compressed unprioritized data packets in a second order for transmission, the second order differing from the first order.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may run a process associated with a low latency. As such, the UE may operate in a mode to stay in a connected state with a network. The mode may include transmitting a keep alive message. Such message may be transmitted based in part on a keep alive timer with a shorter duration than a network traffic inactivity timer. If no communications occur between the UE and the network by the expiration of the keep alive timer, the UE may transmit a keep alive message to the network to maintain the connected state and reset the keep alive timer. Alternatively, if communications do occur, the UE may reset the keep alive timer. If the process is terminated, the UE may exit the mode for staying in the connected state, which may include canceling the keep alive timer.

The UE may determine that the UE performs a number of handovers within a time period. The UE may determine to trigger a handover to the macro cell. The UE may identify the macro cell based on measuring the macro cell during multiple handovers. The UE may determine to refrain from indicating signal measurements of small cells in a measurement report. Accordingly, a measurement report may include a signal measurement of the macro cell and omit the signal measurements of the small cells. The UE may transmit the measurement report to the small cell acting as a serving cell for the UE. Based the measurement report, the UE may receive a message initiating a handover procedure with the macro cell.
