摘要: Disclosed herein is a method for converting an epoxide to a first C3 product, a second C3 product, and/or a first C4 product within an integrated system. The method includes converting the epoxide to a beta lactone to produce an outlet stream comprising beta lactone. The method includes converting the beta lactone of the outlet stream to a first C3 product in the first C3 reactor to produce an outlet stream comprising the first C3 product; converting the beta lactone to a second C3 product in the second C3 reactor to produce an outlet stream comprising the second C3 product, and/or converting the beta lactone to a first C4 product in the first C4 reactor to produce an outlet stream comprising the first C4 product.

摘要: Disclosed are systems and methods for the production of polyacrylic acid and superabsorbent polymers from ethylene oxidation to form ethylene oxide. Reacting the ethylene oxide with carbon monoxide to form to beta propiolactone (BPL) or polypropiolactone (PPL), or a combination thereof. An outlet configured to provide a carbonylation stream comprising the BPL or PPL, or a combination thereof and using one or more reactors to convert BPL to acrylic acid or to convert at least some of the BPL to PPL, and then to convert PPL to acrylic acid. An outlet configured to provide a PPL stream to a second reactor tm to convert at least some of the PPL to AA or a third reactor to convert at least some of the PPL to AA. The outlet configured to provide an AA stream to a fourth reactor to convert the AA to polyacrylic acid.

摘要: The present invention is directed to compositions which may undergo thermolysis to produce a higher purity acrylic acid product. In preferred embodiments of the present invention, the compositions comprise polypropiolactone and one or more active salts. The one or more active salts may catalyze thermolysis of the polypropiolactone so that the polymer depolymerizes into acrylic acid monomers. Certain concentrations of the one or more active salts result in higher purity acrylic acid products of thermolysis. In certain preferred embodiments, the one or more active salts include an acrylate group which may decompose under thermolysis to provide acrylic acid and thus decrease the concentration of undesirable contaminants in the acrylic acid product. In certain preferred embodiment, the one or more active salts comprise sodium acrylate.

摘要: Among other things, the present invention encompasses the applicant's recognition that epoxide carbonylation can be performed industrially utilizing syngas streams containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and varying amounts carbon dioxide. Contrary to expectation, the epoxide carbonylation reaction proceeds selectively in the presence of these mixed gas streams and incorporates excess CO in the syngas stream into valuable chemical precursors, resulting in hydrogen streams substantially free of CO. This is economically and environmentally preferable to performing WSGR which releases the excess carbon as CO2. The integrated processes herein therefore provide improved carbon efficiency for processes based on coal or biomass gasification or steam methane reforming.

摘要: The present invention is directed to catalysts and processes for catalyzing two or more chemical reactions with a multifunctional catalyst in a reaction vessel. The processes include steps for introducing one or more reagents to a reaction vessel containing a multifunctional catalyst; contacting the one or more reagents with a first portion of the multifunctional catalyst to produce an intermediate; contacting the intermediate with a second portion of the multifunctional catalyst to produce a product; and removing the product from the reaction vessel. In certain embodiments, the multifunctional catalyst may have a first portion with carbonylation functionality for catalyzing the production of a beta-lactone intermediate from an epoxide reagent and a carbon monoxide reagent. In certain embodiments, the multifunctional catalyst may have a second portion with a functionality suitable for polymerization, co-polymerization, and/or modification of a beta-lactone intermediate. In preferred embodiments, the first portion and second portion are bonded to a heterogenous support.
