Abstract: A mobile controller unit has a radio positioning system and a two-way communication system and a rover unit also has a radio positioning system and a two-way radio communication system. The controller unit can query the rover unit to send its location data so that the rover unit can be located and if desired, found, such as in the case of a lost child or items. Relative position between the controller and the rover can be displayed on the controller along with an arrow showing where the rover is, as well as how fast it is moving, a track of its movement and other data.The system can also operate in conjunction with a network system that has a PDE and an application server that perform some of the communications and calculation functions.

The mobile rover can report its position to a mobile controller unit or another entity so that the location of the mobile unit can be tracked based on the radio positioning data received by the mobile rover. The radio positioning data can be processed by processing systems within the mobile rover, mobile controller, or other entities such as a position determination entity or a position determination entity proxy. The processing systems can also perform calculations to augment the radio positioning data to provide more accurate estimates of the position of the mobile controller and/or the mobile rover. The mobile controller and/or the mobile rover may be cellular telephones within a cellular network.

Abstract: A method and system in which a mobile controller can show on a display a bearing line to a rover. It is done using a radio positioning system such as GPS or other satellite positioning system to find the relative position of the controller and the rover plus means such as a compass or successive radio positioning fixes to find the heading of the rover. Then, using the relative position of the rover to the controller and the heading of the controller the bearing from the controller to the heading is calculated in a specially programmed computer.
