Abstract: Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for the synchronization and timing of IAB nodes are provided. One method may include determining, at a parent node, a resource configuration and using the determined resource configuration to set a timing advance (TA) mode with two offsets comprising a first offset to be used with time division multiplexing (TDM) and a second offset to be used with at least one of spatial division multiplexing (SDM) or frequency division multiplexing (FDM). The method may also include transmitting a command, to an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, to start adjusting mobile termination (MT) uplink (UL) transmission (Tx) timing based on the resource configuration and the timing advance (TA).

Abstract: In an embodiment, to reduce uplink reporting, a user equipment (UE) keeps a count of the number of uplink protocol data control packet (PDCP) service data units (SDUs) in a measurement period and a number of those uplink PDCP SDUs that either exceeded a configured delay threshold or were discarded without being sent. These numbers are processed by the UE into a single reporting metric which the UE reports to the network for example in a MDT measurement report. The network configures the delay threshold, which may be specific for a given QoS, and may also configure the measurement period.

Abstract: A technique of performing a handover procedure involves providing a proper timing adjustment indication for the UE performing RACH-less HO. Even though the discussion herein is on IAB scenarios and the idea takes an advantage of IAB nodes being in fixed locations (i.e., not moving in the network), it can be applied to UEs in general. The timing adjustment provided in performing a HO in an IAB network according to the improved techniques involves computing a timing advance (TA) to be used by an IAB node prior to executing HO to an alternative serving node. Such a use of a TA may enable a bypassing of a RACH procedure when accessing a cell.

Abstract: These teachings present a new minimization of drive test MDT mode which is valid when the user equipment UE is in an idle state and in a connected state and across the state transitions. The extended logged MDT configuration according to this mode may be configured for the UE by the network, or autonomously by the UE itself. In some embodiments it is associated with the UE reporting its preference for power optimized configuration indication. Some embodiments have a minimum threshold to assure any MDT report from this mode has a sufficient volume of data or sufficient number of data points logged, and so is well suited for smart phones with always-on applications. The parameters such as logging periodicity can differ between the idle and connected state even for a given extended logged MDT configuration.
