    Abstract: Systems for managing pressure in a fluid reservoir chamber of a fluid infusion device are provided. For example, a fluid infusion device comprises a housing having a reservoir chamber that receives a fluid reservoir and a pump chamber. The fluid infusion device also includes a drive system contained within the pump chamber, and the drive system includes a slide that is movable relative to the fluid reservoir. The slide includes a proximal slide end that cooperates with a portion of the fluid reservoir to dispense fluid, and the proximal slide end has a projection. The fluid infusion device includes a pressure management system defined in the projection of the slide. The pressure management system includes at least one bore defined through the projection. The at least one bore is spaced a distance apart from a perimeter of the projection to vent air from the reservoir chamber into the pump chamber.

    Abstract: A fluid infusion device including a housing that receives a sealed fluid reservoir is presented here. The fluid infusion device includes a drive motor assembly, an actuation mechanism, a force sensor, and at least one processor in the housing. The processor detects insertion of the fluid reservoir and incrementally rewinds the drive motor assembly to achieve an equilibrium state. The processor advances the drive motor assembly and obtains at least one measure of force using the force sensor until the at least one measure of force indicates that the fluid reservoir has reached an initial seated state. The processor performs a stabilizing cycle with the drive motor assembly. The processor advances the drive motor assembly and obtains at least one subsequent measure of force using the force sensor until the at least one subsequent measure of force indicates that the fluid reservoir has reached a subsequent sealed state.

An exemplary infusion device includes a housing to receive a shaft coupled to a plunger disposed in a reservoir and a gear assembly including a first gear to engage the shaft, wherein the first gear exhibits rotational freedom in a direction opposite a delivery direction. One exemplary method of operating the infusion device comprises identifying a reset condition and in response to the reset condition, operating a motor having a rotor coupled to the gear assembly to provide the rotational freedom for the first gear.
