Abstract: A vehicle travel control device includes circuitry, and controllers to individually control actuation of traveling devices mounted on a vehicle, based on a computation result of the circuitry. The circuitry identifies a vehicle outdoor environment based on an output from image circuitry, the image circuitry to acquire image information of a vehicle outdoor environment, sets a travel route for the vehicle, based on the vehicle outdoor environment previously identified, determines a target motion of the vehicle to follow the route set, calculates target physical quantities to be executed by the traveling devices to achieve the target motion determined, and controls the traveling devices to operate in coordination with one another. The controllers calculate variables of the traveling devices such that the target physical quantities calculated are achieved, and the controllers output control signals to the traveling devices so as to control the traveling devices to control motion of the vehicle.

Abstract: An arithmetic unit includes circuitry configured to recognize a vehicle exterior environment, set a route, determine a target motion to follow a set route, and output amounts to control traveling devices in accordance with the target motion. The circuitry is configured to calculate a steering amount for achieving the target motion, generate a control signal for controlling a steering device based on the steering amount, and directly output the control signal to the steering device. The circuitry is configured to calculate a driving force for achieving the target motion and in accordance with the steering amount, and output the drive force to a first microcomputer controlling a driving device. The circuitry is configured to calculate a braking force for achieving the target motion and in accordance with the steering amount, and output the braking force to a second microcomputer controlling a braking device.

The automotive arithmetic system outputs a backup control signal to actuators in preference to a control signal when the main arithmetic device fails.
