Abstract: There is provided a method for treating diabetes, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a tetraspanin-2 (TSPAN2) protein expression or activity inhibitor. Further, there is provided a method for screening a diabetes therapeutic agent, the method comprising: (a) bringing a test material into contact with a cell expressing TSPAN2 gene; (b) determining the expression level of the TSPAN2 gene in the cell of (a) and in a control cell which is not in contact with the test material; and (c) selecting, as a diabetes therapeutic agent candidate, the test material reducing the expression level of the TSPAN2 gene in comparison with the control cell.
