Abstract: A network management system (NMS) is described that provides a granular troubleshooting workflow at an application session level using an application session-specific topology from a client device to a cloud-based application server. During an application session of a cloud-based application, a client device running the application exchanges data through one or more access point (AP) devices, one or more switches at a wired network edge, and one or more network nodes, e.g., switches, routers, and/or gateway devices, to reach a cloud-based application server. For a particular application session, the NMS generates a topology based on network data received from a subset of network devices, e.g., client devices, AP devices, switches, routers, and/or gateways, that were involved in the particular application session over a duration of the particular application session. In this way, the NMS enables backward-looking troubleshooting of the particular application session.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for improved wireless terminal roaming. In some embodiments, a management module determines access point density metrics for a plurality of centrally managed access points of a communications site. The density metric considers an average RSSI of access point signals received by other access points of the site, and each access point's contribution to the average. A determination of whether a particular wireless terminal roams is based on the density metrics of the source and target access point, as well as statistics relating to a current capacity of each of the access points. The disclosed embodiments may determine that a wireless terminal should transition/roam away from an access point even when that access point's RSSI value at the wireless terminal is above a threshold that would cause traditional methods to inhibit roaming.

Abstract: Example network management systems, techniques, and computer-readable media are set forth herein. An example network management system is configured to obtain client activity data of one or more access point (AP) devices. The example network management system is configured to determine, based on the client activity data, an anomaly in a behavior of an AP device of the one or more AP devices based on at least one of a comparison to forecasted client activity data of the AP device or a comparison to client activity data of at least one peer AP device. The network management system is configured to perform, based on the determined anomaly in the behavior of the AP device, an action.

Abstract: Techniques are described for automatically configuring one or more settings of wireless radios within access point (AP) devices at a site based on wireless radio configuration settings for wireless radios within AP devices at manually tuned sites, i.e., “golden sites.” The techniques may automatically configure channel bandwidth settings of the wireless radios within the AP devices to optimize performance of wireless networks at the site. A system monitors operational parameters of the wireless radios within the AP devices at a site, identifies a class of wireless radios within AP devices at the golden sites that have similar operational parameters as one or more wireless radios within a particular AP device at the site, and automatically configures the settings of the wireless radios within the particular AP device at the site based on the settings associated with the identified class of wireless radios within AP devices at the golden sites.

Abstract: The network management system (NMS) assesses behavior data such as Ethernet error, speed flapping, cold restart, and/or cloud disconnect collected from a respective one of access points (APs) or other wired client-side devices at an edge of a wired network, and determines whether features of the behavior data are indicative of a bad cable issue at a particular port of a particular network device of the wired network to which the respective AP is connected via a cable. The particular network device may be a third-party network device from which the NMS does not receive behavior data. In the case of a bad cable issue being detected, the NMS outputs a bad cable notification including identification information of the particular port and the particular network device. The NMS enables client-side only, behavior-based bad cable detection at network devices that avoids network traffic disruptions caused by conventional cable tests.

Abstract: Techniques are described that detect areas with insufficient radio frequency (RF) coverage in a wireless network. A network management system (NMS) determines one or more service level expectation (SLE) metrics for each client device in a wireless network. The SLE metrics are aggregated to each access point (AP) in the wireless network, and each AP is assigned an AP score based on the aggregated SLE metrics. To identify potential coverage holes, the NMS groups APs having poor AP scores. If a root cause of the poor AP scores cannot be automatically resolved and if the poor AP scores persist for a predetermined period of time, the group of APs is determined to represent a true coverage hole. The NMS may generate a notification regarding recommended corrective actions to the customer and/or IT personnel.

Abstract: Techniques are described by which a network management system (NMS) receives, from a plurality of access points (APs) configured to provide a wireless network, received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values. The NMS generates, based on the RSSI values, a graph of the plurality of APs, wherein the graph of the plurality of APs includes a plurality of clusters, wherein each cluster comprises a subset of the plurality of APs that are grouped based on strength of connectivity between the subset of the plurality of APs. The NMS generates, based on the graph, an upgrade plan to upgrade the plurality of APs, wherein the upgrade plan comprises a plurality of batches, wherein each batch includes a selection of at least one AP from each of one or more of the plurality of clusters. The NMS sends the upgrade plan to an orchestrator to execute the upgrade plan.
