Abstract:
This optical scanner for testing the validity of a bill transported through a bill validator includes lower and upper members spaced to allow a bill to pass therebetween, at least one member including a light transmissive area. A light emitting element is arranged to direct light through the light transmissive area and a light receiving sensor is arranged to receive light from the light emitting element during passage of bill (B) therebetween. The light transmissive area includes a recessed portion to provide non-contact face portions of the light transmissive area spaced from the bill to preclude the transfer and build-up of dirt and abrasion of these areas.
Abstract:
This credit card reader (10) with a liquid diverting system (50, 52) includes a reader housing having lower and upper housing portions (12) and (14) and having an outwardly disposed entry portion (36, 46) defining an opening leading to a credit card enclosure (16) retained within the housing and having an opening 70. The liquid diverting system (50, 52) includes a movable member (50) movable from a first position blocking the enclosure (16) and providing drainage, to a second, flexed position permitting entry of a credit card (SC) into the enclosure (16).
Abstract:
The present invention relates, in one form thereof, to making a coin payout from a vending machine having a processor for processing data and a plurality of coin tubes for storing coins, each coin tube having one coin denomination type stored therein. The machine further includes coin counter, coupled to the coin tubes and to the processor, for determining when a coin is deposited in each coin tube and when a coin is removed from each coin tube. In one form of the present invention, the processor is programmed to determine whether certain conditions are satisfied for a particular vend and, if such conditions are satisfied, paying out at least one coin selected on the basis of predetermined criteria.
Abstract:
A coin sensor device for determining the authenticity of a coin traveling along a predefined path including a first sensor device such as an optical sensor device located along the path, a second sensor device such as a second optical sensor device spaced a predetermined distance from the first sensor device along the path, the first and second sensor devices producing signal responses when a coin moves thereby, and a processing device connected to the first and second sensor devices for measuring two distinctive time intervals, the first time interval beginning when the trailing edge of the coin is sensed by the first sensor device and continuing until the trailing edge is sensed by the second sensor device, the second time interval beginning when the leading edge of the same coin is sensed by the second sensor device and continues until the trailing edge is sensed by the second sensor device, the processing device determining the ratio of the two time intervals and based on a determination of a predetermined ratio generating a signal to indicate the acceptability of the coin. The first and second sensor devices are preferably spaced along the predefined path such that certain large denomination coins will be able to simultaneously interrupt both the first and second sensor device and small denomination coins will interrupt the first and second sensor devices one at a time.
Abstract:
A vend space allocation apparatus and method for use with a vending system capable of vending from among a plurality of classes of selectable vendable products a product from a selected product class, which vending system has a plurality of product storage areas and an established vend space allocation configuration allocating the product storage areas to the classes of selectable vendable products, the vend space allocation apparatus including a vend selection monitoring portion for monitoring over a period of time the historical demand for the various classes of selectable vendable products, a determining portion for determining, based at least in part upon said historical demand, space allocation information indicative of a preferred vend space allocation configuration for the vending system, and a display for communicating to authorized personnel such space allocation information.
Abstract:
A pricing device for use in coin controlled and related devices such as coin changers and other vending control circuits including an electronic memory device for entering and storing price information, and programming controls for the memory device including information entry controls, memory addressing controls including controls for selecting a particular vend at a particular vend price, controls for addressing and storing in the memory device and for reading out therefrom selected vend price information, controls for disabling the memory entry controls during readout, and vend selection input and readout controls for the memory device.
Abstract:
A control circuit for vending and other coin controlled devices which have arrangements to payback amounts deposited in excess of the vend price, the vending machine having a plurality of coin tubes for respectively containing coins of different denominations for payback, each tube having a sensor associated therewith to produce a response whenever the quantity of coins contained therein has fallen below a predetermined quantity insufficient to be used for payback, the improvements comprising a control circuit for controlling the operation of the coin tubes during payback and escrow operations of amounts deposited incuding circuit elements for controlling the making of paybacks and escrowing in the highest possible denominations of coins, said circuit elements responsive to responses produced by the sensor on the respective coin tubes including apparatus for shifting a payout operation from paying back of higher denomination coins to paying back of lower denomination coins whenever the quantity of coins in the higher denomination coin tubes has fallen below said predetermined quantity.
Abstract:
A bill validator for detecting the presence of a bill comprising a bill passageway having a first side and a second side, a light source positioned at the first side, the light source for emitting light across the passageway, a reflecting surface positioned at the second side, and a detector device positioned at the first side, the detector device for receiving light reflected from the reflecting surface.
Abstract:
A coin detection device for determining a size of a coin traveling along a coin track comprises a first inductive sensor positioned along the coin track, a second inductive sensor positioned above the first inductive sensor, a processing circuit connected to the first and second inductive sensors, each of the sensors for providing an output signal to the processing circuit and the processing circuit determining the size of the coin based upon a ratio of the output signals.
Abstract:
An integrated credit/information exchange module includes a bill examination portion, a card examination portion, a display portion, and a data entry portion connected to and controlled by a processor portion. The integrated module also includes a modular housing and faceplate configured for simple retrofit installation into existing vending machines having bill acceptor slots to overcome the space limitations of such vending machines. The faceplate includes a bill insertion opening, a card insertion opening, a display screen, and a set of data entry keys located thereon. Bill examination, card examination, and advanced vending machine features such as data retrieval, reprogramming, card revaluation, smart message displays, and control operations are provided through programming of the processor portion.
