Abstract:
A radio-frequency transparent window having internal conduits for the passage of cooling fluid is configured for simulating a highly uniform thermal environment for testing a device intended for use in space. The device to be tested is placed within a chamber in which a vacuum condition is maintained by a radio-frequency transparent pressure window under a pressure seal. Within the chamber, the thermal window is positioned adjacent, but not in contact with, the pressure window. A radio frequency signal is capable of passing directly through both the thermal window and the pressure window to permit communication with the device being tested within the housing. The thermal window is not in contact with the device so there in no conduction of heat from the device. Radiant heat transfer may occur from the device to the thermal window.
Abstract:
An overhead arcade-like light display is disclosed. The display comprises a canopy of an open framework with elongated linear raceways containing electrical wiring and supporting thousands of bulbs gathered in groups of four identified herein as pixels. Pixels are closely and regularly spaced. The raceways are linearly positioned running the length of said arcade and placed parallel to one another to position themselves to become the interior arcuate frame structure. Each pixel is covered with a light diffusing dome and the individual bulbs are of a different color so that colors, shades, tones and hues of a thousand varieties may be obtained from each domed pixel. A display having in excess of one million bulbs with minimal wind resistance is readily constructible.
Abstract:
A firefighter identification system for use with a firefighter's cylindrical air bottle includes a C-shaped metal band to be slipped or snapped onto the cylindrical air bottle and having an outer surface. Removable labels are placed on the C-shaped metal band. The removable labels can comprise flexible adhesive-backed labels or flexible magnetic labels. The removable labels are a combination of photoluminescent with reflective. The C-shaped metal band comprises a spring steel band and has flared ends to help ease the metal band over a cylindrical oxygen bottle.
Abstract:
An integrated module for an active antenna assembly is disclosed. The integrated module is switchable between a receive mode and a transmit mode and includes active components and a dual input wideband balun. The active components includes amplifiers and micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) switches. The integrated module is adapted for positioning directly behind a radiator of an antenna array.
Abstract:
A floatable twin carcass hose has a main carcass surrounded by a secondary carcass adapted to expand radially if pressurized fluid leaks through the main carcass to between the two carcasses. There is buoyancy material around the secondary carcass, an outermost cover layer, and inextensible hoop reinforcement between the secondary carcass and outer cover at one or more localized positions along the length of the hose thereby locally to inhibit expansion of the cover if fluid leaks to between the carcasses.
Abstract:
Direct access storage devices (DASD) are connected to a host via a cache. Each device can be independently addressed by any one of a plurality of addresses, also termed logical devices and exposures. Since operations between DASD and cache are combined for all of the independent logical devices, resetting operations related to one independent logical device can inadvertently interfere with operations of another independent logical device. To maintain data integrity, a programmed control accommodates logical device independence by using queues and control blocks relating to the DASD and logical devices, respectively.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods relating to an electronic display are disclosed. A method of operating a display system may include conveying visual content representing a contiguous image to a display system including a plurality of display panels, wherein each display panel is adjacent at least one mounting member. The method may further include selectively retrieving with each display panel of the plurality an associated subset of the visual content belonging thereto. In addition, the method may include displaying on a display device of each display panel the associated subset of the visual content.
Abstract:
A plug-in telephone facility includes conventional telephone communication apparatus together with a conventional coin-operated mechanism supported within a housing enclosure. A plurality of telephone plug receptacles are supported within the housing and may be accessed by a user's personal telephone communication device. Embodiments are shown which provide alternatives to a conventional pay telephone as well as convenient roadside facilities accessible from a motor vehicle.

Abstract:
Lighting elements include light emitting diodes mounted on a circuit board with a lens assembly that may be positioned substantially near the light emitting diode to allow light from the light emitting diode to pass through a lens portion of the lens assembly. The lens assembly includes a connecting base piece to detachably connect the lens assembly to the circuit board. A method of connecting a lens to a circuit board may also include placing a lens assembly including the lens over a light emitting diode and detachably connecting the lens to the circuit board by detachably connecting a base piece of the lens assembly to the circuit board.
