摘要: A fuel injector including a body having an inlet, an outlet, and a fuel passageway extending from the inlet to the outlet along a longitudinal axis. An armature is proximate the inlet of the body. A needle is operatively connected to the armature. A seat is proximate the outlet of the body. A guide member is disposed within the body, the guide member including an aperture that guides the needle. A flat metering disk is disposed between the seat and the guide member, the flat metering disk including a central aperture, a perimeter, and a plurality of slots. Each of the plurality of slots is disposed about the central aperture and extends from the central aperture toward the perimeter to define a volume. The plurality of slots are configured so that the volumes of two of the plurality of slots are non-uniform, and/or the plurality of slots are non-uniformly disposed about the central aperture.

摘要: A fuel injector includes a housing, a passageway, a coil assembly, a seat, and a closure member. The housing extends along a longitudinal axis between an inlet and an outlet, and fuel flows through the passageway from the inlet to the outlet. The coil assembly is disposed proximate the inlet of the housing, and the seat is disposed proximate the outlet of the housing. The closure member is disposed in the housing and is movable along the longitudinal axis between a first position, which prohibits fuel flow, and a second position, which permits fuel flow. The closure member includes a magnetic member, a needle, and a tubular member. The magnetic member is adapted to cooperate with the coil assembly to move the closure member from the first position to the second position. The needle member occludes the seat in the first position of the closure member. The tubular member couples the magnetic member to the needle member, and defines a portion of the passageway. The tubular member extends between a first end, which defines a first opening, and second end, which defines a second opening. A portion of the first opening is aligned with the second opening such that fuel flow between the first and second openings is along a flow path that is parallel to the longitudinal axis.

摘要: An electromagnetically operable fuel injector for a gaseous fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, the injector having a generally longitudinal axis. which comprises, a ferromagnetic core, a magnetic coil at least partially surrounding the ferromagnetic core and an armature magnetically coupled to the magnetic coil and being movably responsive to the magnetic coil. The armature actuates a valve closing element which interacts with a fixed valve seat of a fuel valve and is movable away from the fixed valve seat when the magnetic coil is excited. The fixed valve seat defines a central fuel opening and a generally annular groove adjacent the central fuel opening, the armature having a generally elongated shape and a generally central opening for axial reception and passage of gaseous fuel from a fuel inlet connector positioned adjacent thereto. The fuel inlet connector and the armature are adapted to permit a first flow path of gaseous fuel between the armature and the magnetic coil as part of a path leading to said fuel valve. A method of directing gaseous fuel through an electromagnetically operable fuel injector for a fuel system of an ? combustion engine is also disclosed.

摘要: An injector for high pressure direct fuel injection in an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The injector has a downstream end and a longitudinal axis extending therethrough. The injector has an outlet orifice located at the downstream end. The outlet orifice has an outlet axis oblique to the longitudinal axis. The outlet orifice discharges a circular cone-shaped spray having a spray axis co-linear with the outlet axis. A method of forming a bent circular cone-shaped spray pattern is also disclosed.

摘要: The present invention provides a valve assembly including a housing, an armature, an armature bias spring, a needle, and a seat. The valve assembly housing has an inlet, an outlet, and an axially extending passageway from the inlet to the outlet along a longitudinal axis. The armature is disposed within the passageway. The armature has an armature passage including a first portion and a second portion. The first portion has a first cross-sectional area. The second portion has a second cross-sectional area. The first cross-sectional area of the first portion is greater than the second cross-sectional area of the second portion. The armature bias spring is disposed within the first portion of the armature passage. The needle is disposed within the second portion of the armature passage. The seat is located proximate the outlet. The flow restrictor is disposed between the first portion and the second portion of the armature passage of the armature. The flow restrictor includes an orifice having a third cross-sectional area that is less than the first cross-sectional area. The present invention also provides a method of generating flow from a valve assembly without after-flow through the valve assembly when the valve assembly is commanded to terminate a flow cycle. The method is achieved by sizing the first portion of the armature passage with a first volume and the second portion of the armature passage with a second volume, which is less than the first volume; providing a first vent aperture that communicates the first volume with a portion of the armature passageway; providing a second vent aperture that communicates the second volume with a portion of the armature passageway; and locating a flow restrictor between the first volume and the second volume.

摘要: An electromagnetically operable fuel injector for a gaseous fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, the injector having a generally longitudinal axis, a ferromagnetic core, a magnetic coil at least partially surrounding the ferromagnetic core, and an armature magnetically coupled to the magnetic coil and being movably responsive to the magnetic coil. The armature actuates a valve closing element in the form of a valve needle which interacts with a fixed valve seat of a fuel valve and is being movable away from the fixed valve seat when the magnetic coil is excited. The armature has a generally elongated shape and a generally central opening for axial reception and passage of gaseous fuel from a fuel inlet connector positioned adjacent thereto. The fuel inlet connector and the armature are adapted to permit at least a first flow path of gaseous fuel between the armature and the magnetic coil as part of a path leading to the fuel valve. A thermally conductive material is positioned adjacent the magnetic coil to transfer heat from the magnetic coil to adjacent components to as to render the coil thermally efficient and relatively unaffected by heat generated thereby.

摘要: In a method for reducing “blow-out” of annular welds for attaching components in a fuel injector, a relief region is formed on radially-facing surfaces of the components. The relief region is adjacent to a press-fit region. The components are then pressed together, and a weld is made in the relief region. A sealed gap is thereby formed in the relief region between the weld and the press-fit region. The sealed gap provides for the expansion of trapped gases that could otherwise “blow out” the liquid weld bead.

摘要: An electromagnetically actuable fuel injector for an internal combustion engine is disclosed having an outer housing, a fuel inlet connector positioned in the upper end portion of the outer housing for reception of fuel therein, and an armature having a valve needle attached thereto and positioned adjacent the fuel inlet connector and spaced therefrom by a working gap. The armature defines a generally elongated central opening to receive fuel flow from the fuel inlet connector and has valve needle attached thereto which interacts with a fixed valve having a fixed valve seat associated with the housing to selectively permit fuel to flow through a valve aperture associated with the fixed valve seat. The fuel inlet connector has a fuel outlet end facing a fuel inlet end of the armature and includes a plurality of radially extending raised pads separated by a corresponding plurality of radially extending recessed portions to reduce the contact area between the fuel inlet connector and the armature when the armature is moved upwardly, and to promote fuel flow transversely across the working gap therebetween to establish a first fuel flow path outside of the armature. The first fuel flow path prevents contaminants from accumulating in the working gap. The armature includes at least one first aperture extending through a wall portion thereof for receiving fuel flow from the generally elongated central opening and for directing the fuel flow to a second flow path toward the fixed valve seat. At least one-second aperture extends through a wall portion of the armature and extends at a generally acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis to establish a third fuel flow path toward the fixed valve seat. The size, orientation and numbers of the apertures can be varied to achieve predetermined flow conditions. A method of directing fuel through an injector is also disclosed although the fuel injector and method disclosed utilize gaseous fuels, all types of fuels are contemplated.

The lowermost end portion of the fuel inlet connector has a transverse cross-sectional dimension corresponding to the transverse dimension of an upper end face of the armature to define a substantially direct magnetic flux path between the armature and the fuel inlet connector.
