Abstract: Disclosed herein are new radio (NR) Data link architecture options including, for example, NR radio bearer models, NR logical channel models, and MAC and HARQ models. Further described are packet flows mapping to data radio bearers (DRBs), and a new flow encapsulation protocol in the user plane. In some embodiments, DRBs with different quality of service (QoS) are pre-established, but not activated. This allows a given user equipment (UE) to use these DRBs for packet data network (PDN) flows without a large overhead. Pre-established DRBs can be an extension to default bearer concept with the decision of pre-establishment of DRBs based on UE capability, subscription profile, operation policy, installed apps, etc.

Abstract: The present application is at least directed to an apparatus in a network including a non-transitory memory including instructions stored thereon for obtaining a resource for accessing a target cell in the network. The apparatus includes a processor, operably coupled to the non-transitory memory, configured to execute the instructions of detecting plural beams associated with the target cell. The processor also executes the instructions of determining one or more of the plural detected beams meeting a threshold for performing random access. The processor also executes the instructions of evaluating if a physical random access channel (PRACH) resource is associated with the one or more determined beams meeting the threshold. The processor further executes the instructions of selecting one of the evaluated beams exhibiting a reference signal received power (RSRP) above a predetermined value. The processor even further executes the instructions of picking the PRACH resource associated with the selected beam.

Abstract: Multiple mobility sets are maintained for nodes of radio networks. The sets comprise information such as: transmit and receive point identities; cell identities; beam identities; frequency channels; channel bandwidth; and black lists. The sets may be defined at different levels, such as network and physical (PHY) level. A network mobility set, e.g., a new-radio (NR) mobility set may, be determined by the gNB, the cell, the UE, or another device. Multiple radio access network nodes and UEs may exchange mobility set information to achieve a distributed mobility solution. A UE may monitor its orientation relative to a TRP, e.g., via use of an onboard MEMS gyroscope, and alter its beamforming parameters in response to changes in orientation and/or changes in TRP connection strength. Cell selection and reselection for beam based networks may use Single Frequency Network (SFN) broadcast of initial access signals without beam sweeping.

Abstract: Logical Channel Prioritization (LCP) may be enhanced by accounting for Quality of Service (QoS) attributes of single hop and multi-hop paths. QoS attributes may be communicated as a QoS budget comprising a number of attributes, or as a single composite QoS “resistance” factor that quantifies the compounded impact of number of hops, latency, load conditions, and the like. The QoS budget or resistance may dynamically adjusted, and may be used by LCP to provide differentiated uplink resource allocation to data of the bearer or logical channel subject to different transmission paths between the transmitter and the receiver, for example. QoS budget and resistance information may be used to, e.g., enhance Buffer Status Report (BSR) and Scheduling Request (SR) operations.
