    Abstract: A plate type heat exchanger arranged so that heat exchange is effected between fluids through heat transfer plates. It comprises heat transfer plates serving as heat transfer elements, and jet plates each having a number of small holes. One fluid is jetted through the small holes in the jet plates towards the heat transfer plates opposed to the jet plates while the other fluid flows along the respective opposite heat transfer surfaces of the heat-transfer plates or is jetted toward the respective opposite heat transfer surfaces as in the case of the first fluid.

    Abstract: Improvements in the condensing heat transfer surface of a condenser which handles organic working fluids whose surface tension is not more than 35 dyne/cm as gas mediums to be condensed. The improvements comprise the formation of a plurality of transversely spaced vertically extending grooves on the condensing heat transfer surface on which the gas medium condenses. The pitch of the grooves is about 1-2 mm and the depth is about 0.3-0.6 mm.

    Abstract: A plate type evaporator comprising a plurality of vertically extending plate elements assembled face-to-face to define therebetween alternate channels for a heating medium and for a liquid to be evaporated. In order to accelerate the nuclear boiling of the liquid in the liquid channels, the heat transfer surface of each plate element has a plurality of vertically extending transversely spaced ridges projecting toward the associated liquid channel, such ridges being in contact with the heat transfer surface of the opposed plate element to provide areas of contact assisting in the evolution of vapor bubbles and divide the liquid channel into narrow sections assisting in the generation of vapor, such sections also assuring that even in deeper places in the liquid channel, vapor bubbles will be generated without yielding to the liquid pressure; alternatively, each plate element has a porous layer formed on its heat transfer surface facing the liquid channel. These heat transfer constructions permit attainment of even higher boiling heat transfer if the liquid in the liquid channels is caused to circulate.

    Abstract: A plate type condenser comprising a plurality of heat transmitting plates which are assembled in side-by-side contacted relation and enclosed in a container or shell, with a gasket disposed between adjacent heat transmitting plates in such a manner that suitably opened steam passages and closed cooling liquid passages are alternately defined in the internal clearances of the plate assembly. The plate type condenser is constructed to improve the heat transmitting performance in that the pressure loss of steam at the steam inlet opening in the side-by-side contacted plates is reduced and the gaskets for preventing leakage of cooling liquid are fixed; that short pass between the plates and the shell is prevented to limit the flow of steam to a given direction; and that the influences of uncondensable gases contained in the steam on the heat transmitting performance of the condenser are minimized with due consideration given thereto.

    Abstract: A plate type evaporator having heat transfer surfaces with which jets of liquid collide. Each heat transfer surface is formed with a number of grooves arranged in concentric circles with their common center located at the center of collision. Such grooves, on the boiling heat transfer surfaces, function to promote the formation of nuclei, while on the heating heat transfer surfaces, they act to cause turbulent flow to the heating medium in that they constitute points of contacts where they are contacted with the bottoms of the grooves of an adjacent heat transfer plate.

    Abstract: A plate type condenser with a plurality of heat transmitting plates assembled face-to-face to form therebetween passages for steam and the cooling liquid alternately. The plate has in a heat transmitting surface, on which condensate occurs successively, a plurality of longitudinal grooves which serve for subjecting the condensate to flow down only in the grooves under the action of surface tension, and a condensate collecting and discharging means consisting of inclined grooves and vertical grooves, for the purpose of preventing the downflow liquid layer on the heat transmitting surface from its growth. The longitudinal groove is curved at the lower portion thereof along the inclination of the inclined groove, and the inclined groove is in the multi-stripes configuration to improve the condensate collecting and discharging performance. Decrease in pressure loss of steam is also accomplished in addition to the advance of the condensate discharging performance by constructing the inclined groove in the form of weir with a weir plate which is provided on the steam passage side thereof with a plurality of overhangs opening in the direction of the stream of steam.
