The engine control unit controls an output torque of an engine, transferred from the engine to the automatic transmission. The engine control unit has a fail determination section, an engine torque suppression control section, and an engine racing detection section, and executes control for suppressing the engine torque according to a speed detected by the sensor when the inhibitor switch is in a failed state.
