Abstract: An electrosurgical system can include a surgical device configured to adjust energy delivery in accordance with a specified cutting-to-coagulation relationship. The specified cutting-to-coagulation relationship can be determined based at least in part on an impedance or other parameter associated with tissue or an environment at or near the one or more electrodes. The specified cutting-to-coagulation relationship can be determined automatically (e.g., without requiring user input) and adaptively based on the sensing, such as in real-time as the therapy progresses.

Abstract: A laser tissue ablation system can include an optical fiber, with a distal end being extendible from an endoscope body of an endoscope. The optical fiber can deliver therapeutic laser light from the distal end of the optical fiber toward a target site, and receive return light into the distal end of the optical fiber. The laser tissue ablation system can include a sensor that can spectrally measure the return light. The laser tissue ablation system can include processor circuitry that can form a first determination, from the spectral measurement of the return light, whether flashing event light is present in the return light. The flashing event light can be generated when a flashing event occurs at the distal end of the optical fiber. The processor circuitry can generate, in response to the first determination, a flashing event data signal that indicates whether the flashing event has occurred.

Abstract: An electrosurgical device comprising: forceps including: (i) a first working arm having a contact surface and (ii) a second working arm having a contact surface; wherein the forceps has a first electrical configuration where the contact surface of the first working arm and the contact surface of the second working arm are substantially opposite each other so that the contact surfaces of the forceps can be used to grip an item between the working arms and so that the forceps is configured to deliver a first therapy current through the first working arm, the second working arm, or both; and wherein the forceps has second electrical configuration where the contact surface of the first working arm and the contact surface of the second working arm are askew relative to each other and an electrode edge is formed on at least one side of the forceps so that a second therapy current extends from the electrode edge.

Abstract: Disclosed are system and methods for a laser system comprising at least one laser, a processor, and a user interface. The processor can receive a range for at least one setting of the at least one laser that the at least one laser can operate within. The processor can further determine a proposed updated value for the at least one setting and determine that the proposed updated value is within the range. An indication of the proposed updated value and an option for a user to accept or reject the proposed updated value can be provided on a user interface. Responsive to an acceptance the at least one setting can be adjusted based on the proposed updated value. Responsive to no rejection within a predetermined period of time, the processor can cause the at least one setting to be adjusted or cancel adjustment of the at least one setting.

Abstract: A method of performing a surgical procedure comprises inserting a medical instrument into anatomy of a patient to reach target tissue within an anatomical cavity, disinfecting anatomy within the patient with the medical instrument and performing treatment of the target tissue with the medical instrument. A medical device for providing disinfecting to a surgical site, the medical device comprises an elongate shaft extending from a proximal end to a distal end, an imaging device located proximate the distal end of the elongate shaft, a lighting element located proximate the distal end of the elongate shaft, a working channel extending at least partially through the elongate shaft and a disinfecting system attached to the elongate shaft to deliver a disinfecting capability proximate the distal end of the elongate shaft.
