摘要: A rocker assembly for a vehicle body structure includes a rocker rail having a boxed cross-section defining a rocker rail interior space, a rocker rail length, and a rocker rail outer surface along the length. The rocker rail defines at least one aperture connecting the interior space and the panel outer surface. The rocker assembly also includes an insert member configured to fit within the rocker rail interior space and extend along the panel length to reinforce the panel. The insert member includes at least one projection configured to match up with and extend at least partially through a respective at least one aperture. The projection(s) are configured to reinforce the rocker rail by opposing deformation of the boxed cross-section. The projection(s) oppose deformation via interference with the boxed cross-section at the respective aperture(s) when the rocker rail is subjected to an applied load perpendicular to the panel outer surface.

摘要: A method of isolating a metallic fastener from a carbon-fiber composite panel includes inserting the metallic fastener within an electrically isolating annular collar; inserting the metallic fastener and electrically isolating annular collar within a hole defined by the carbon-fiber composite panel; and securing the metallic fastener to the carbon-fiber composite panel. The annular collar may be circumferentially disposed about the metallic fastener such that the annular collar separates and electrically isolates the entire metallic fastener from the carbon-fiber composite panel. As such, the annular collar may minimize the galvanic reaction between the fastener and the carbon-fiber composite panel.

摘要: An assembly includes a fiber-reinforced composite structure, a bushing, and a fastener. The composite structure includes a composite panel on a first side, where the composite panel defines a hemispherical well. The structure further includes a plurality of stiffening ribs on a second side, which are affixed to the composite panel. The composite panel defines a first bore at the center of the hemispherical well, which extends through the structure. The bushing has a hemispherical end and a flat end, and defines a second bore from the center of the hemispherical end to the center of the flat end. The hemispherical end of the bushing is configured to nest within the hemispherical well defined by the composite structure such that the flat end of the bushing is flush with the surrounding composite panel. The fastener is configured to extend within both of the first bore and the second bore.

摘要: A vehicle includes a cargo bay defined by a fore endwall, a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and a bed. A closure panel is pivotable between an open position and a closed position with respect to the cargo bay. The vehicle also includes a collapsible storage container comprising a plurality of wall panels. Each respective wall panel of the plurality of wall panels is pivotably coupled to at least one other respective wall panel of the plurality of wall panels. The plurality of wall panels are selectively repositionable between a stowed position and a deployed position. A respective wall panel of the plurality of wall panels is pivotably coupled to the interior side of the closure panel. In the stowed position each respective wall panel is disposed parallel to the closure panel and in the deployed position a storage volume is defined between the plurality of wall panels.

摘要: A system, apparatus, or method for joining components is provided. The system applies force along an axis, with a friction pin, to a first substrate, such as with a joiner or joining apparatus. The system also frictionally melts a portion of the first substrate adjacent the friction pin by rotating the friction pin about the axis at a first speed within the first substrate. The system also applies force to the second substrate along the axis and frictionally melts a portion of the second substrate adjacent the friction pin by rotating the friction pin at a second speed within the second substrate. The system embeds a portion of the friction pin within the first substrate and the second substrate. In some configurations, the first speed and the second speed are substantially equivalent. In other configurations, the first speed is different from the second speed.
