Abstract: This shock-absorbing member comprises a molded part containing a thermoplastic resin. The molded part is provided with a main body having a honeycomb structure filled with a plurality of tubular cells. All or some of the tubular cells constituting the honeycomb structure are arrayed with cell walls interposed therebetween, the cell walls having a thickness gradient that satisfies the relationship of expression (G) and that is found by the following “method of calculating the cell wall thickness gradient”.
[Method of calculating the cell wall thickness gradient]
Procedure 1): set a central axis (a), which passes through one end-surface center of gravity and another end-surface center of gravity in a first tubular cell that has a height (H).
Procedure 2): set any two faces (b) and (c) perpendicular to the central axis (a) within the range of the height (H) of the first tubular cell, and let the distance between the two faces (b) and (c) be h (units: mm; 0

Abstract: A motor vehicle deformation device has two elements moveable together in a collision event and optionally locked. A locking device has a first centrifugal lever pivotably mounted about a first pivot axis located on the first element, a first torsion spring operatively connected to the first lever, a first rolling surface and a first contact surface arranged distally to same, as well as an identically designed second centrifugal lever neighboring the first lever. In a low-speed collision, the two levers each swivel such that the two rolling surfaces are in contact with one another and the two contact surfaces each rest against a corresponding receiving surface on the second element. In a pedestrian accident situation, the two levers each swivel such that the two rolling surfaces are in contact with one another, while the first and second contact surfaces are at a distance from the second element.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a collision energy absorbing apparatus capable of suppressing a peak load at the initial stage of a collision and a load drop immediately after it. The collision energy absorbing apparatus is an apparatus that absorbs collision energy, the apparatus being mounted on a vehicle and including a pressure member, an absorbing member, and a guide part that guides, a moving direction of the pressure member, in which a hole through which the pressure member guided and moved by the guide part enters is formed in the absorbing member, and in an event of a collision, the pressure member is guided by the guide part and a tip part of the pressure member enters the hole formed in the absorbing member while shearing an inner wall of the hole, to thereby absorb collision energy.

Abstract: A vehicle shock absorbing structure provided on the vehicle includes a shock absorbing member and a bracket. The shock absorbing member is disposed on a front end of the vehicle so as to extend in a vehicle width direction. The shock absorbing member includes a front end serving as a collision portion. The bracket includes a front end coupled to a rear end of the shock absorbing member. The bracket interposed between the shock absorbing member and a vehicle body. A deformation control member that extends forward and obliquely upward is provided in a coupling portion at which the bracket is coupled to the shock absorbing member. The deformation control member is more fragile than a front portion of the shock absorbing member that in front of the coupling portion and a rear portion of the bracket in rear of the coupling portion.

Abstract: A crash impact attenuator is adapted for deployment on a vehicle, and includes a cartridge portion having at least one energy absorbing module, as well as a backup system having a backup frame, which is adapted to attach the cartridge portion to the vehicle. The backup system includes an actuator configured to pivot the cartridge portion between a deployed orientation and a stored orientation about a pivot axis disposed on a lower half of the backup system. The backup system further includes a lockout frame member having a contact surface on one end thereof, the lockout frame member being actuatable between a deployed orientation wherein the contact surface engages a portion of the backup frame to support the backup frame against vehicular impact forces and a stowed orientation wherein the contact surface is not engaged with the backup frame.

Abstract: A bodywork structure for a passenger vehicle includes a bodywork shell construction with two longitudinal girders and a flexible crossmember device attached to the two longitudinal girders. The flexible crossmember device has a first flexible crossmember and two energy absorption elements where the two energy absorption elements are respectively fixed to the two longitudinal girders and the first flexible crossmember is connected to the two longitudinal girders via the two energy absorption elements. A support framework is disposed between the two longitudinal girders and has a second flexible crossmember that is at least indirectly connected to the two longitudinal girders and is convexly curved in a direction of the first flexible crossmember. The support framework has a load divider disposed between the first flexible crossmember and the second flexible crossmember in the longitudinal direction of the passenger vehicle and extending in the transverse direction of the passenger vehicle.

Abstract: A bumper assembly is provided having a flange that overlies the body of the vehicle. The flange may be a body flange extending from an elongate bumper beam or a cladding flange extending from an external cladding that covers at least a portion of the bumper beam. The flange may protect the body from wear or corrosion, and/or bridge a gap between the frame and the body of the vehicle. The assembly may also include a contact structure for contacting at least a portion of the vehicle frame, such as the hitch beam. The contact structure may resist rotation of the bumper assembly, prevent vibration of the bumper assembly against the frame, and/or support a vertical load on the bumper. In some embodiments, the assembly may be primarily mounted to the body of the vehicle, such that the bumper beam “hangs” from the body of the vehicle.
