A process for increasing the bleaching efficiency of an inorganic persalt or hydrogen peroxide by adding to said persalt or H.sub.2 O.sub.2 an activating agent. The activating agent is an acetylated gluconic acid derivative, such as N-methyl-N-acetyl pentaacetyl gluconamide, N-methyl-N-acetyl pentaacetyl gluconamide or tetraacetyl gluconolactone. The invention also relates to the acetylated gluconic acid derivatives themselves.

A de-inking composition is disclosed consisting substantially of:(A) a salt of a fatty acid of the formula: R--COO--M wherein R represents one or more hydrocarbon chains selected from the class consisting of saturated and/or unsaturated hydrocarbons; and M represents a metal selected from the class consisting of Na and K; said fatty acid salt being present in an amount between 5% and 32% with respect to the weight of the entire composition;(B) a non-ionic ethoxylated and/or propoxylated surfactant of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: Y is either H or CH.sub.3 ;R.sup.1 O represents the hydrophobic moiety of the molecule and is derived from a compound selected from the class consisting of alkylphenols of formula ##STR2## saturated primary fatty alcohols of formula R"--CH.sub.2 OH; saturated secondary fatty alcohols of formula R"' ##STR3## fatty acids of the formula R.sup.v --COOH; and mixtures thereof, wherein R', R", R"', R.sup.iv and R.sup.v are alkyl chains; andn is a number between 2 and 40; said non-ionic surfactant being present in an amount between 5% and 25% by weight of the entire composition;(C) an anionic surfactant selected from the class consisting of sulphonates of the formula R.sup.2 --SO.sub.3 --M'; sulphates of formula R.sup.3 --O--SO.sub.3 --M' and mixtures thereof, wherein:R.sup.2 is selected from the class consisting of linear paraffin chains, olefine chains, and alkylaryl chains;R.sup.3 is a paraffin chain; and M' is selected from the class consisting of Na, K, NH.sub.4 and mono-, di- and tri-substituted alkylamines; said anionic surfactant being present in an amount between 2% and 8% with respect to the weight of the entire composition;(D) a sodium-carboxylmethyl-cellulose in an amount between 1% and 5% with respect to the weight of the entire composition; and(E) an alkaline inorganic salt selected from the class consisting of metasilicate, disilicate, carbonate, borate and polyphosphates, said alkaline inorganic salt being present in an amount between 30% and 80% of the entire composition; the percentages of the components (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E) totaling essentially 100%.A process of de-inking is also disclosed.

A process for the disposal of chlorinated organic products, wherein said products are first treated with a sulphonating or nitrating agent, and then are oxidized with an aqueous solution of H.sub.2 O.sub.2, in the presence of Fe(II) ions as catalysts, optionally in association with ions of other transition metals selected from Cu(II), Ti(IV), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), W(IV), Mo(IV), or mixtures thereof. The process leads to a substantially complete elimination of the chlorinated organic products with consequent, considerable reduction of the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and to a high mineralization degree of the organic chlorine atoms.

A printed waste paper de-inking composition for use in the "washing" process is disclosed containing:(A) a salt of a fatty acid present in an amount of between 15% and 32% based upon the weight of the entire composition;(B) a nonionic ethoxylated and/or propoxylated surfactant present in an amount between 5% and 25% based upon the weight of the entire composition;(C) an anionic surfactant represented by sulphonates or sulphates present in an amount of between 2% and 8% based upon the weight of the entire composition;(D) a sodium carboxylmethylcellulose in an amount of between 1% and 5% based upon the weight of the entire composition; and(E) an alkaline inorganic salt of the group comprising metasilicate, disilicate, carbonate, borate and polyphosphates, the alkaline inorganic salt present in an amount of between 30% and 80% based upon the weight of the entire composition; the percentages of the components (A), (B), (C), (D), and (E) totaling essentially 100%An improved "washing" process for de-inking printed waste paper is also disclosed.

The invention relates to a process for increasing the bleaching efficiency of an inorganic persalt and to bleaching and/or detergent compositions suitable for removing stains from textiles or from other products such as paper, cellulose, cork, hair etc. These bleaching and/or detergent and/or anti-incrusting compositions comprise an inorganic persalt and an activating agent comprising an acetylated mixture of sorbitol and mannitol wherein the molar ratio between the bleaching activator and the persalt is usually from 10:90 to 50:50. The bleaching activator having an acetylation degree ranging from 1 to 6 and the weight ratio of sorbitol to mannitol in the mixture is within the range of from 2.5:1 to 4:1.
