摘要: Push activated intraosseous (TO) access devices include replaceable and rechargeable or non-rechargeable battery packs, or spring driven devices. Intraosseous access devices often require training to ensure correct placement of the access device. The disclosed devices include an intuitive operation with a unidirectional activation and drive force application. The trigger can be both activated and deactivated automatically to prevent premature activation and prevent “backwalling”. The device can include various indicators to further guide a user in placing the device correctly, with little or no training. Devices can further include replaceable battery packs to ensure a full charge is available when the device is used, and to provide a multi-use device that requires less storage.

摘要: An introducer needle can include a needle shaft, a sheath over the needle shaft, and a needle hub around a proximal portion of each of the needle shaft and the sheath. The needle shaft can include a needle slot extending from the proximal portion of the needle shaft through a distal needle tip, which needle tip can include a bevel having a tip bevel and a heel. The needle shaft can include opposite needle-slot walls that either: a) face each other and are parallel or oblique to each other, or b) face toward or away from a bottom of the needle slot. Additionally or alternatively, opposite needle-shaft walls can be parallel to each other. The sheath over the needle shaft can seal the needle slot thereunder but for a sheath opening in a proximal portion of the sheath.

摘要: A rapidly insertable central catheter (“RICC”) insertion assembly having a sealing module can include a RICC, an introducer needle, an access guidewire, and a coupler coupling the RICC and the introducer needle together. A proximal portion of the access guidewire is disposed in a primary lumen of the RICC. A distal portion of the access guidewire is disposed in a needle shaft of the introducer needle through a needle slot thereof. A coupler housing of the coupler includes a sealing-module cavity of the sealing module. An elastomeric sealing-module insert of the sealing module is inserted into the sealing-module cavity. The sealing-module insert is configured to separately seal around a proximal portion of the introducer needle and the distal portion of the access guidewire when the sealing-module insert is compressed in the sealing-module cavity. A method can include inserting the foregoing RICC into a blood-vessel lumen of a patient.

摘要: A guidewire locking mechanism for a rapidly insertable central catheter (RICC) placement system includes a housing defining a needle lumen and guidewire lumen communicating therewith and extending at an angle therefrom. The needle extends through the needle lumen and a guidewire aperture, disposed in a side wall thereof, and aligns with the guidewire lumen. The guidewire extends through the guidewire lumen, through the guidewire aperture, and into a needle lumen. Once accessed, the guidewire can stabilize the insertion site to the vasculature. A locking mechanism can lock a position of the guidewire and the housing can detach from the needle hub, allowing the needle to be withdrawn therefrom. The guidewire can slide through a needle slot to disengage the needle. In the unlocked position, the guidewire can pass through one of a housing slot or a lock slot to disengage the system.

摘要: Disclosed are rapidly insertable central catheter (“RICC”) insertion assemblies and methods. For example, a RICC insertion assembly can include a RICC, an access guidewire, an introducer needle, and a coupler coupling the foregoing components together. The introducer needle can include a needle shaft and a sheath. The needle shaft can include a longitudinal needle slot. The sheath can seal the needle slot thereunder except for a sheath opening thereto in a proximal portion of the sheath. The coupler can include a coupler housing and a valve module disposed in the coupler housing. The valve module can seal the needle shaft and the sheath therein. The access guidewire can include a proximal end coupled to the coupler and a distal end disposed in the introducer needle, thereby enforcing a loop in the access guidewire. The RICC can be disposed over the loop in a ready-to-deploy state of the RICC insertion assembly.

摘要: Disclosed herein are intraosseous access devices having various operating mechanisms, as well as methods of the intraosseous access devices. For example, an intraosseous access device includes, in some embodiments, a constant-torque spring assembly, a drive shaft, an intraosseous needle, and an interlock mechanism. The constant-torque spring assembly is disposed in a housing, and the drive shaft extends from the housing. The drive shaft is coupled to the constant-torque spring assembly. The intraosseous needle is coupled to the drive shaft. The intraosseous needle is configured for drilling through bone and providing intraosseous access to a medullary cavity of a patient. The interlock mechanism is configured to prevent rotation of the intraosseous needle and the drilling therewith until the interlock mechanism is disengaged.

摘要: Constant-torque intraosseous access devices and methods thereof are disclosed. An intraosseous access device can include a constant-torque spring assembly disposed in a housing, a drive shaft extending from the housing, and an intraosseous needle coupled to the drive shaft configured to provide intraosseous access to a medullary cavity of a patient. A method of such an intraosseous access device can include inserting a distal end of the intraosseous needle through skin at an insertion site of a patient; applying force to bone at the insertion site with the distal end of the intraosseous needle, which starts winding a metal ribbon of the constant-torque spring assembly from an output spool onto a storage spool, thereby starting rotation of the intraosseous needle; and drilling through the bone until the intraosseous needle enters a medullary cavity of the patient, thereby achieving intraosseous access with the intraosseous access device.

摘要: Disclosed herein are push activated intraosseous (IO) access devices, and methods thereof. Embodiments include replaceable and rechargeable or non-rechargeable battery packs, or spring driven devices. Intraosseous access devices often require training to ensure correct placement of the access device. Users must coordinate the opposing actions of pulling proximally on a trigger, while applying sufficient distal drive force to penetrate the bone. Devices disclosed herein include an intuitive operation with a unidirectional activation and drive force application. Further the trigger is both activated and deactivated automatically to prevent premature activation and prevent “backwalling”. The device includes various indicators to further guide a user in placing the device correctly, with little or no training. Devices further include replaceable battery packs to ensure a full charge is available when the device is used, and to provide a multi-use device that requires less storage.
