Abstract:
Drilling oils are protected against microbe attack by incorporation therein of a preparation made by heating a 1,2-benzisothiazolone of formula wherein R1 and R2 are H or halogen and may be the same or different, and R3 is H or hydroxyalkyl with paraformaldehyde at 95-150 DEG C. in an organic solvent.ALSO:Antimicrobial preparations are made by heating a 1,2-benzisothiazolone of formula wherein R1 and R2 are H or halogen and may be the same or different, and R3 is H or hydroxyalkyl, with paraformaldehyde at 90-150 DEG C. in an organic solvent, e.g. a glycol or monoether thereof with lower monohydric alcohols. The solvent is preferably water-miscible and the reaction conducted in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide.ALSO:Antimicrobial preparations are made by heating a 1,2-benzisothiazolone of formula wherein R1 and R2 are H or halogen and may be the same or different, and R3 is H or hydroxyalkyl, with paraformaldehyde at 90-150 DEG C. in an organic solvent. Textiles may be treated with these preparations.
