The devices operate with AC voltage at voltages of less than twenty four volts and in some instances at less than five volts. Under AC driving, the device produces modulated light output that can be frequency or amplitude modulated. Under DC driving, the device operates in both forward and reverse bias.

A method of making an organic magnet on a substrate in a vacuum chamber includes depositing a first layer of metal-containing compound on the substrate by MLD.
