    摘要: A completion and workover fluid composition comprising, water and at least one rheology modifier and/or fluid loss control agent, and at least one other ingredient selected from the group consisting of inorganic salts, shale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitor, biocide, defoamers and finely divided solids particles (e.g., bentonite, attapulgite, sepiolite, calcium carbonate, etc.), depending upon the desired attributes, wherein the rheology modifier and/or the fluid loss control agent is an ethoxylated raw cotton linters or a modified ethoxylated raw cotton linters. The ethoxylated raw cotton linters provides comparable or better rheology and viscosity properties compared to high molecular weight commercial HECs made from purified cotton linters. These ethoxylated raw cotton linters derivatives are suitable for applications in oil-well servicing fluids, particularly to enhance functional properties of completion and workover fluids used during oil-well drilling operations.

    摘要: A composition is composed of a hydrophobically modified polyacetal-polyether (HM-PAPE) or comb hydrophobically modified polyacetal-polyether (comb HM-PAPE) and a viscosity suppressing agent of cyclodextrins or derivatives thereof. A method for improving the pumpability and pourability of aqueous solutions of HM-PAPE or comb HM-PAPE is provided by admixing a cyclodextrin with the HM-PAPE or comb HM-PAPE to form a complex of the cyclodextrin and HM-PAPE or comb HM-PAPE where the viscosity of the HM-PAPE or comb HM-PAPE is suppressed and adding the complexed admixture to an aqueous system containing a water-insoluble polymer wherein the cyclodextrin is decomplexed and the HM-PAPE or comb HM-PAPE becomes an effective thickener. An example of the uses for this composition and method is in film forming coatings such as latex paints.

    摘要: Cellulose ethers are disclosed which have sufficient nonionic substitution to render them water soluble and which are further modified with a C.sub.10 to C.sub.24 long chain alkylaryl group in an amount between 0.2% by weight and the amount which makes them less than 1% by weight soluble in water. Hydroxyethylcellulose is a preferred water soluble cellulose ether for modification according to the invention. These products exhibit substantially improved viscosifying effects compared to their unmodified cellulose ether counterparts, and provide good leveling and sag resistance in latex paints. Preferred alkylaryl groups are nonylphenyl, dodecylphenyl, and dinonylphenyl. Included are cellulose ethers with spacer groups of various lengths between the alkylaryl group and the connecting group to the cellulose molecule.

    摘要: A silated polyvinyl alcohol with a degree of substitution (D.S.) between 0.005 and 0.5 is prepared by reacting polyvinyl alcohol with a silating agent. Preferred silating agents are 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane or vinyltrimethoxysilane. An alkali metal or ammonium salt of the silated polyvinyl alcohol can self-crosslink in the presence of atmospheric carbon dioxide to form a water resistant film which is soluble in caustic.
