Abstract: A head-mounted device may exchange wireless communications with external electronic equipment. Weak network strength for the wireless communications may cause latency that results in a suboptimal user experience. To improve operations of the head-mounted device, the head-mounted device may predict a change in network strength associated with the wireless communications. The head-mounted device may predict changes in network strength based on historical network strength data and/or scene understanding data for a physical environment. In response to predicting the change in the network strength, the head-mounted device may change a characteristic of the wireless communications. The head-mounted device may change a forward error correction applied to the wireless communications, change a bit rate of the wireless communications, and/or change a number of retries during the wireless communications.

Abstract: Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods that enable compression of two-dimensional (2D) map-based video content. For example, a process may obtain (2D) data sets corresponding to different attributes of three-dimensional (3D) content. Each of the 2D data sets may provide attribute values for locations within a common 2D coordinate system that associates the attribute values for the different attributes with respective portions of the 3D content. The process may further generate a single 2D image by combining the 2D data sets. The attribute values corresponding to the different attributes may be combined with the single 2D image. The process may further encode the single 2D image into a specialized format for transmission or storage.

Abstract: A technique for managing transmission quality for objects in a copresence session includes obtaining representation data for a virtual representation of a subject. A first bitrate and a second bitrate are determined, where the first bitrate satisfies a first quality metric for a first data quality tier, and the second bitrate satisfies a second quality metric for a second quality tier. A set of data quality tiers are generated for the representation of the subject based on the first bitrate and the second bitrate.

Abstract: Thermal conditions can be simulated for an electronic device. Application developers may want to test how applications perform under various thermal conditions on a device that includes thermal management. The application developers can use the tests to determine whether the application should take proactive measures to maintain application performance, and which proactive measures should be taken. For example, an application can reduce its use of resources to ensure that an application maintains a desired quality of user experience (and at a minimum remains responsive) under adverse thermal conditions. Creating adverse conditions can be difficult to replicate, costly to implement, and can potential cause damage to the electronic device being tested. In some examples, simulating thermal conditions can be used instead of placing the device in real-world adverse conditions to improve the testing process for developers.
