    Abstract: Accessory devices are described herein. An accessory device may include a receptacle for receiving an electronic device. The accessory device may include a case that covers the housing of the electronic device, or a folio that additionally includes a cover can conceal the display of the electronic device. Accessory devices described herein further include wireless circuitry used to communicate with wireless circuitry in the electronic device. The wireless circuitry can be used for various functions and features. For instance, the wireless circuitry in the accessory device can respond to authentication requests from the electronic device, and/or to send authentication requests to the electronic device. Further, the wireless circuitry in the accessory device can send information to the electronic device.     Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for transmitting, as part of a polling loop, a value added services (VAS) command that includes capability data corresponding to a payment terminal. For example, the payment terminal can transmit a VAS command that advertises the payment terminal's capabilities as part of a polling loop. The payment terminal can listen for a response to the VAS command and, after receiving a response, the payment terminal may initiate a VAS protocol. The VAS command can also specify a mode in which the payment terminal is operating, such as a payment-only mode, a VAS mode, a payment-plus-VAS mode, etc.

    Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to communicating data. Some techniques are described herein for selecting an initiator for a near-field communication (NFC). Such techniques include comparing a random number generated to a random message received in a polling message to select an initiator for NFC. NFC is then used to transfer data to be used to establish a different type of wireless communication channel, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Other techniques are described herein for selectively sending a long-term key over one communication channel for another communication channel when communicating with another device. Such techniques include receiving an authentication credential from the other device and, if the authentication credential has not previously been seen, sending the long-term key. Other techniques are described herein for selectively delaying subsequent communication with another device communication over a communication channel. Such techniques include receiving an authentication response from the other device and, if the authentication response corresponds to an unknown device, delaying subsequent communication with the other device.
