    Abstract: System and apparatus for carbon dioxide detection within an automobile. Specifically, this disclosure describes apparatuses and systems for optical gas detection in a stationary and moving vehicle. There is a need for a such a system to prevent loss of life and contribute to a safer traffic environment. This disclosure provides a highly efficient optical measurement system based on principals of optical absorption spectroscopy. It detects the presence of neglected children and animals and changes the vehicle's interior environment accordingly so as to preclude many potentially dangerous conditions. The present disclosure can also optimize ventilation for a driver. To this end, a driver can maximize alertness and attentiveness.

    Abstract: Aspects of the embodiments are directed to non-contact systems, methods and devices for optical detection of objects in space at precise angles. This method involves the design and fabrication of photodiode arrays for measuring angular response using self-aligned Schottky platinum silicide (PtSi) PIN photodiodes (PN-diodes with an intrinsic layer sandwiched in between) that provide linear angular measurements from incident light in multiple dimensions. A self-aligned device is defined as one in which is not sensitive to photomask layer registrations. This design eliminates device offset between “left” and right” channels for normal incident light as compared to more conventional PIN diode constructions.

    Abstract: Gain independent reference channel measurement system and method. A method of making robust, stable measurements, in a variety of different applications is disclosed. More specifically, this disclosure describes systems and methods relating to performing gain independent reference channel measurements by making two phase measurements of a device under test. Mathematically, the measurements are combined and many common mode parameters drop out. The result yields an analysis of a device under test analysis which mitigated errors, predominately arising from environmental variations and changes in circuit behavior stemming from swings in signal input.

    Abstract: An electrical circuit includes a photodiode that receives a light signal from a light source and generates a photocurrent signal, a trans-impedance amplifier that amplifies the photocurrent signal and generates a low noise signal, and a high pass filter that converts the low noise signal into an alternating current (AC) signal having a positive amplitude, a negative amplitude, and a zero cross-over point between the positive amplitude and the negative amplitude. The electrical circuit also includes a positive integrating amplifier that receives the positive amplitude of the AC signal and generates a positive integrated value over an integration period, and a negative integrating amplifier that receives the negative amplitude of the AC signal and generates a negative integrated value over the integration period.
