A travelling band filter comprises a filter web 26 entrained round a rotary drum 20 in a tank of unfiltered liquid, the drum and web being carried by a frame 68, pivoted at 70 so that it may be lifted out of the liquid, the interior of the drum communicating witha filtrate suction pump 52 through a seal comprising flanges 72, which are urged together by the weight of the frame and drum alone. In Fig. 1, the web 26 is disposable, fed from roll 28 round roll 30, drum 20, roll 62 and up ramp 34. Scrapers 38 engage the medium and solids fall to the bottom of the tank and are removed by endless scraper conveyor 40. The two chains of conveyor 40 are driven by a motor 64 and engage peripheral teeth on drum 20. Rolls 30, 62 are driven off the drum and so are the chains 37 of a second endless conveyor which lifts the used web up ramp 34. The interior of drum 20 above the liquid level is closed by arcuate baffle 74. In Figs. 2 to 11 (not shown), an endless filter band is cleaned by reverse flow gas from fixed nozzle (112) and is held against the drum by the bars linking the two chains of an endless conveyor which rotates the drum. Filter cake breaks from the band where it passes over upper roll 120. movable to adjust tension. An external double ramp sealingly engages the upper part of the drum and guides the band on and off the drum. The filter web may be of nylon or glass fibre and may drive the drum directly, without any conveyor being used. A nylon cloth web may have pockets therein containing reinforcing cross members.

[Also in Division B1] An endless conveyer belt 10 is formed with guide rails 13 which are adapted to engage guide pulleys 15b, 15c, 15d thereby constraining the belt to a pre-determined path. The rails 13 are mounted on edging strips 14. The pulleys may be adjusted in a direction normal to the plane of the belt by screws (19), (Fig. 2, not shown); they may also be resiliently mounted. The rails may be of triangular, square, trapezoidal or half-round cross-section, the crosssection of the pulley rim conforming to this shape in each case. As applied to a mesh screen belt for a filtration unit (Fig. 8, not shown), (see Division B1) one guide pulley (72) is located near a drive drum (71) which bears the reaction of the pulleys (72). Another pulley (74) bears on a bearing surface (76).

    Abstract: Overspray paint material containing a volatile solvent, of which a substantial proportion has been volatilized during spraying, is dispersed in an aqueous mixture including an organic solvent of higher boiling point than that in the paint, so that the solvent and paint form a continuous liquid phase floating on the surface of the remainder of the aqueous mixture, which phase is then removed from the surface of the mixture and the remainder re-circulated. The higher boiling-point solvent may be an aromatic hydrocarbon having a sp. gr. between 0.928 and 0.943, and an open-cup flash point of at least 190 DEG F. The aqueous mixture may also contain sodium silicate, sodium phosphate, and light petroleum; the solvent may contain dissolved stearic acid, glycerol mono-oleate, an alkyl aryl polyether alcohol or polyethylene glycol tertiary dodecyl thioether. Suitable apparatus is described in Specification 828,779. Specifications 754,585 and 815,470 also are referred to.
