    摘要: A liquid crystal display having improved retardation plate is described. In the liquid crystal display, at least one of two panel plates has a polarizer placed on an outer side which is opposite to a liquid crystal layer and a quarter wavelength retardation plate between a substrate glass and the polarizer. The quarter wavelength retardation plate is composed of two retardation films including a half wavelength and a quarter wavelength retardation film. A slow axis of a half λ film which is adjacent to the polarizer makes an angle of Θ1 with a transmissive axis of the polarizer and that of a quarter λ film which is adjacent to the substrate glass makes an angle of Θ2 where Θ2=2×Θ1±45 degree. The retardation films are single-axial films. The specific angle Θ1 is one of degree values (15, 75, 105, and 165). In a transmissive type liquid crystal display, a structure of the other panel plate is similar to that of one panel plate and combination to the values (Θ1, Θ2, Θ3, Θ4) is one selected from the group consisting of combinations (15, 75, 165, 105), (75, 15, 105, 165), (105, 165, 75, 15), and (165, 105, 15, 75).

    摘要: The invention is directed to a liquid crystal display and assembly without a contact hole in the reflective layer. By eliminating the contact hole, the overall reflectance of the apparatus is increased. In order to prevent light leakage and afterimage, the invention includes an interface electrode that is strategically positioned over where light leakage occurs. An exemplary display apparatus includes a first substrate having a reflective region and a transmissive region including a transparent electrode, a second substrate including a transparent common electrode, a liquid crystal layer located between the first substrate and the second substrate, and a thin film transistor. The tin film transistor includes a gate electrode, a source electrode, and a drain electrode, and the gate electrode is located in the reflective region. Either the source electrode or the drain electrode contacts the transparent electrode between the reflective region and the transmissive region.

    摘要: Disclosed is a transmissive and reflective type LCD. In the LCD, a second substrate faces a first substrate. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate. A first polarizing plate is formed on an outer surface of the first substrate. A second polarizing plate is formed on an outer surface of the second substrate. A backlight is arranged for irradiating incident light onto the polarizing plate. A transparent transflective film is arranged between the first polarizing plate and the backlight for partially reflecting and partially transmitting the incident light. The transparent transflective film includes at least a first layer and a second layer, the first and second layers having different refractivity indexes from each other and are alternatively stacked. By a restoring process occurring between the transflective film and the backlight, a predetermined amount of the incident light is transmitted through the transflective film repeatedly, so that transmissivity and light efficiency are enhanced.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display, in accordance with the present invention, includes a first substrate having a thin film transistor and a first electrode formed thereon. The first electrode is electrically connected to the thin film transistor. A first insulating layer is formed on the first substrate including the thin film transistor and the first electrode and a window is formed in the first insulating layer, the window exposing a predetermined region of the first electrode. A second electrode is provided on the first insulating layer and electrically connected to the first electrode. A second substrate includes a third electrode formed thereon. A first gap is formed between a surface of the third electrode and a surface of the predetermined region of the first electrode, and a second gap is formed between the surface of the third electrode and a surface of the second electrode. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first gap and the second gap. Other embodiments are included as well as methods for forming the liquid crystal display of the present invention.
