摘要： In a hood for a conventional highway truck, induction air for the engine of the truck is drawn by the engine vacuum into the hood through air inlets therein at the upper corners of the grille opening defined by the front hood reinforcement to avoid the more severe road splash contamination. The air is drawn through several turns of ninety degree or smaller angle, including the inlets disposed perpendicularly to the path of travel, through a vertical duct adjacent the front reinforcement, a horizontal duct adjacent the fenders, a rear vertical duct, and the duct-defining rear reinforcement to a connection with the engine air cleaner. Both of the vertical ducts are provided with small drain holes adjacent their lower ends to permit heavier particles and water to drain therefrom. The ducts have been provided with large cross-sectional areas which, in addition to reducing air flow restriction, provide lower air flow velocity which further enables water and heavier particles to drop out of the air stream.

摘要： A hood tilt control mechanism includes a hood support brakcet having one hinge leaf attached to the chassis including a longitudinally extending slot for slidably receiving one end of a telescoping hood tilt assist mechanism and a second hinge leaf attached to the hood and providing a pivotal mount for the other end of the assist mechanism. The assist mechanism telescopes or extends respectively against the bias of opening or closing springs disposed adjacently on the assist mechanism so that when the hood is closed, the closing spring exerts a counterbalancing force on the hood to assist its opening. As the hood opens the closing spring force goes to zero and, as the hood moves to the open position, the opening spring is engaged by the mechanism to dampen the motion of the hood, ultimately stops the hood by interference of the spring coils, and counterbalances the hood weight in the open position to assist closing. When the hood is closed, similar damping, stopping, and counterbalancing functions are performed by the closing spring.

摘要： A roll transfer robot and method of operation are disclosed wherein a roll transfer robot acts to move a roll of material from a conveyor assembly to a payoff assembly. The roll transfer robot assembly is capable of translational motion between the two assemblies. In addition the roll transfer robot includes a spindle assembly capable of both sliding and rotational displacement. Detectors are additionally provided as part of the robot assembly for identifying the rotational position of the roll being mounted to the payoff assembly.

摘要： A powered surface maintenance machine having an exhaust air system for dust control is equipped with air filters for removing dust from the air before exhausting it to atmosphere. Automatic means are provided to mechanically shake dust from the filters whenever enough has accumulated on them to adversely affect dust control. This filter cleaning is accomplished with no attention from the machine operator and does not interrupt the operation of the machine or the air flow needed for dust control.

摘要： A collectorless vacuum fan for floor maintenance machines has a backplate with an inlet plate attached thereto in spaced relationship, and an impeller between the backplate and inlet plate. Both the backplate and the inlet plate extend radially beyond the periphery of the impeller. A shaft mounts the impeller for rotation. The inlet plate has a central opening providing air to the hub of the impeller. Vanes on the impeller discharge air out through a diffuser channel defined by the space between the inlet plate and the backplate outside the periphery of the impeller. Attachment elements for mounting the inlet plate on the backplate leave the diffuser channel substantially unobstructed so that air is discharged about the entire periphery of the impeller. The fan has increased air flow compared to a conventional fan having an integral collector housing and decreased noise compared to a fan having a 360 degree discharge and no diffuser.

摘要： A vehicle primarily for unmanned operation is equipped with a video camera pointed up, and progressively records in an on-board computer memory the observed locations of points derived from overhead features such as pre-existing overhead lights in a building during a manually driven teaching mode trip along a desired course. On subsequent unmanned trips, the vehicle directs itself along the chosen course by again observing the overhead features, deriving points from them and comparing the locations of those points to the locations of the points that were recorded during the teaching mode trip. It then corrects its steering to bring the errors between the observed locations and the recorded locations to zero, thereby directing the vehicle to automatically follow the course that was followed during the teaching mode trip.
