An information processing apparatus includes an execution unit that executes a program, a main storage unit that includes a first non-volatile memory which is readable and writable and is capable of retaining stored information even when no power is supplied and is provided with a first storage area which stores the program executed by the execution unit and a second storage area which stores data generated by the execution of the program by the execution unit, a connection unit that connects the execution unit and the main storage unit, and a condition storage unit that includes a second non-volatile memory which is readable and writable and is capable of retaining stored information even when no power is supplied and stores conditions which are set by the connection unit to transmit and receive the program and the data between the execution unit and the main storage unit.

Each of the image forming apparatuses includes a network computer, a power saving controller for applying a power saving control in a first power saving mode in which a supply of power to a printing function portion that forms an image on a sheet is stopped and a power is fed to the network controller when the apparatus acts as a main apparatus, and applying a power saving control in a second power saving mode in which a supply of power to the printing function portion and the network controller is stopped when the apparatus acts as subordinate apparatus, and a main apparatus deciding unit for deciding the image forming apparatus out of the plurality of image forming apparatuses based on a calculation of power consumption of the plurality of image forming apparatuses.

The information processing system includes: an information processor operating in an active state and a power saving state consuming less power than the active state, and recovering to the active state by receiving a signal in the power saving state and processing information in the signal; a signal transmitting device transmitting a signal to the information processor; and a communication line establishing communication between the information processor and the signal transmitting device. The signal transmitting device transmits the signal after appending, to a predetermined region inside the signal, the identification information for identifying a processing content of the signal. The information processor specifies the processing content from the identification information when receiving, in the power saving state, the signal, recovers to the active state where power is supplied to a functional unit to execute the processing content, and starts processing on information stored in a data region of the signal.
