Abstract: A distraction frame for use with a surgical table, wherein the surgical table includes a base for positioning on a floor, the distraction frame including a table mount for fixation to the base of the surgical table; at least one horizontal strut mounted to the table mount; at least one vertical strut mounted to the at least one horizontal strut; and at least one distraction mechanism mounted to the at least one vertical strut, wherein the at least one distraction mechanism may be connected to a limb of a patient for applying a distraction force to the limb of the patient; wherein the table mount may transfer to the floor a force moment imposed on the table mount when the at least one distraction mechanism applies a distraction force to a limb of a patient.

Abstract: A driving device including a right-angle handpiece assembly having a casing containing an input shaft, an output shaft and means drivingly connecting same. A bone drill attachment is connectible to the handpiece assembly and includes a cylindrical extension mountable upon the output end of the casing and concentric inner and outer drill bits which project from said extension. The inner drill bit is connectible to the output shaft by a pair of clutch mechanisms which are normally spring-biased into a disconnected position. The outer drill bit normally rotates with the inner drill bit but is permitted to move axially and angularly relative to the inner drill bit through a predetermined distance. The cutting end of the inner drill bit extends axially beyond the cutting end of the outer drill bit. Alternately, a wire driving attachment can be connected to the handpiece assembly and includes a chuck structure mountable upon the output end of the casing and drivingly connectible to the output shaft. The chuck structure has a continuous opening therethrough which aligns with a through opening in the casing for receiving therein an elongated member, such as a wire.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a cushion constructed of a gel-like substance and having a flexible mesh-like sheet embedded therein. The mesh is placed within a tray so that the edges of the mesh drape over the upper edges of the side-walls of the tray where they are held by elongated channel-shaped clamping members. Each clamping member has an inner leg which projects downwardly into the tray to position the mesh at a desired level within the tray. Corner clips overlap adjacent ends of the channel members to hold same tightly in position. A liquid substance is poured into the tray and it passes through the mesh to fill the tray to the desired depth. The tray is placed in an oven and heated at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined time whereby the liquid substance becomes a gel-like cushion with the mesh embedded therein. After the cushion has cooled, it is removed from the tray and the edges of the mesh are trimmed. The gel-like cushion can then be covered by a suitable casing.

Abstract: A pneumatically powered device for rotating, at a relatively high speed, a tool of the type used by a surgeon for performing an operation. A self-contained air motor is removably disposed within an elongated tubular housing easily held and manipulated by the hand of the surgeon and connected by swivel means to conduits through which a gas under pressure is delivered to and carried away from one end of the air motor.
