Abstract:
Bis-azo colorants for use as bluing agents, laundry care compositions including bis-azo colorants that may serve as bluing agents, processes for making such bluing agents and laundry care compositions and methods of using the same. The bluing agents are generally include at least two components: at least one chromophore component and at least one polymeric component. These bluing agents are advantageous in providing a whitening effect to fabrics, while not building up over time and causing undesirable blue discoloration to the treated fabrics.
Abstract:
Novel compounds based on diaminostilbene are provided. The compounds conform to the general structures The compounds are useful as optical brighteners. Compositions, such as laundry compositions, containing such compounds are also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to thiazolium dyes and laundry care compositions comprising one or more thiazolium dyes. The dyes and compositions are advantageous in providing improved hueing of fabric, including whitening of white fabric, while avoiding significant build up of bluing dyes on the fabric.

Abstract:
This invention relates to solid complexes of anionic organic dyes with quaternary ammonium compounds which have average molecular weights of below about 900 which are substantially free from unwanted salts. Of particular interest as quaternary ammonium compounds are those which comprise alkoxylated moieties. Such complexes are formed through ionic bonds formed between the two compounds. The complexes are then removed of substantially all resultant unwanted salt formed from the cations of the dye and the counter-ions of the quat so as to obtain a solid dyeing agent which easily disperses within different media and which possess extremely good non-migration and coloring characteristics. This invention also concerns methods of making the aforementioned salt-free solid anionic dye/quat complexes as well as methods of utilizing such complexes for dyeing thermoplastic, thermoset, and wax compositions.
Abstract:
A method of forming a colored polymer coating on a substrate is disclosed which comprises mixing a reactive polymer, a reactive colorant, and a linking agent, and reacting the linking agent with the reactive polymer and reactive colorant under suitable conditions to form the colored polymer coating. The polymer from which the coating is formed has reactive groups which can react with the linking agent. The reactive colorant has the general formula:R-[polymeric constituent-X].sub.nwherein R is an organic dyestuff radical; the polymeric constituent is selected from polyalkylene oxides and copolymers of alkylene oxides in which the alkylene moiety of the polymeric constituent contains 2 or more carbon atoms; n is an integer from 1 to about 6; and X is a reactive moiety. The linking agent has a reactive group capable of reacting with reactive groups in the polymer and a reactive group capable of reacting with the reactive moiety of the reactive colorant. A method of coating a substrate with a lightfast colored polymer finish is also disclosed which comprises forming a colored polymer coating on the substrate in accordance with the method described above and then overcoating the colored polymer coating with a second polymer layer containing an ultraviolet absorber. A composition comprising a mixture of the coating polymer, a reactive colorant, and a linking agent is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A polyolefin plastic composition having improved transparency is provided which comprises a polymer selected from aliphatic polyolefins and copolymers containing at least one aliphatic olefin and one or more ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic comonomers, and a di-acetal of sorbitol in an amount sufficient to improve transparency; said di-acetal of sorbitol having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy, methoxy, mono- and di-alkylamino, nitro and halogen, with the proviso that at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is chlorine or bromine.
Abstract:
This invention relates to polymeric violet anthraquinone colorants having at least one poly(oxyalkylene) chain attached to an anthraquinone structure. Such colorants exhibit bright violet shade, excellent compatibility with organic media or aqueous systems, good lightfastness, and excellent thermal stability. The water soluble poly(oxyalkylene) substituted polymeric violet anthraquinone colorants also possess high water solubility, high color strength, non-staining properties, and high pH stability. The processes and methods for making such polymeric violet anthraquinone colorants and their use for coloring consumer products are also provided.
