    摘要: A flexible elastomeric cover particularly for an electrolytic cell of the mercury type. The cover has at least one layer comprised of a corrosion resistant elastomeric composition including a vulcanized rubbery polymer to resist deleterious fluids and a multiplicity of small, non-porous, inert particles of a plate-like structure dispersed throughout the polymer to further resist the permeation and penetration of such fluids into the cover with the preponderance of the particles having an aspect ratio of at least 20:1 and being oriented in a direction generally parallel to a surface of the cover to provide a barrier to the migration of such deleterious fluids. The rubbery polymer is preferably polyisoprene and the plate-like or platy particles are preferably graphite or glass flakes.

At least one reinforcing ply extends from one sleeve end to the opposing sleeve end; the reinforcing ply has cords encapsulated in a ply coat compound and at least one end of the reinforcing ply terminates in one air sleeve end. According to the present invention, a reinforcement means is spaced from the end of the reinforcing ply by a distance greater than the ply coat compound.

    摘要: An air spring having a relatively low and a relatively high spring height includes a retainer, a base housing, an elastomeric sleeve secured to the retainer at a first end and secured to the base housing at a lower end to form a chamber, the elastomeric sleeve expanding from a relatively collapsed configuration at the low air spring height into an expanded configuration at the high air spring height. A confined bladder is disposed within the chamber, the bladder being inflatable to displace a variable portion of an expanded volume within the sleeve chamber at the high air spring height. The spring rate of the air spring is adjusted by an adjustment to the volume of air displaced by the inflated bladder within the sleeve chamber and by overpressurizing the bladder relative to the air spring sleeve, whereby the air spring is adapted to provide a relatively low spring rate at the lower height and a relatively high spring rate at the higher height.
