摘要: A pair of optical prisms arranged in a complementary relationship provides for anamorphic magnification and cooperates with a refractive or diffractive element having at least one axis of effective cylindrical curvature, wherein each at least one axis of effective cylindrical curvature and the apexes of the pair of optical prisms are all substantially parallel to one another. The refractive or diffractive element generates an aberration as a result of rotation thereof about an axis parallel to the at least one axis of effective cylindrical curvature that at least partially compensates a corresponding aberration generated by the pair of optical prisms.

摘要: A selected color component (R, G, B) for each of a plurality of image pixels (32, P) of an image cell (42, C) is encoded to form a corresponding color component (ER, EG, EB) of a corresponding plurality of encoded pixels (40, PE) in one-to-one correspondence with the image pixels (32, P). A bit length of each color component (ER, EG, EB) of an encoded pixel (40, PE) is less than that of a corresponding image pixel (32, P). The encoded pixels (40, PE) are subsequently decoded to generate a corresponding decoded image cell (64, C′k) containing decoded image pixels (62, P′) in one-to-one correspondence with both the encoded pixels (40, PE) and with the original image pixels (32, P), of the same bit length as the original image pixels (32, P), and containing extended color information in excess of the corresponding base color information contained in the corresponding most-significant (MS) portions of the color components (R, G, B) of the original image pixels (32, P) having the same bit length as the encoded color components (ER, EG, EB).

摘要: A relatively higher resolution digitized image (12) organized as a plurality of first kernel arrays (110), each with a plurality of pixels (37), is transformed into a corresponding relatively-smaller second kernel array (124) of a relatively-lower-resolution image (38) and an associated set (116, 118) of remaining pixels (37). Down-sampled pixels of the second kernel array (124) are generated from linear interpolation of original pixels (37) of the first kernel array (110). Associated interpolation coefficients incorporate perturbations to locations of the down-sampled pixels (37′) that are symmetric with respect to centers (128, 130) of the first (110) and second (124) kernel arrays. Down-sampled pixels (37′) of the second kernel array (124) can be recombined with the associated set (116, 118) of remaining pixels (37) to reconstruct the relatively higher resolution digitized image (12) substantially without loss of associated information, or used directly to reconstruct an approximation thereof, with associated encoding and decoding processes adapted to reduce the susceptibility of image reconstruction errors caused by subsequent image compression.
