    摘要: In an optical disc device employing a CLV method, executing pickup return processing when focus drop occurs during recording poses problems of increased waiting time for rotation and increased focus servo recovery processing time. When defocusing occurs and focus pull-in cannot be achieved by retry, a first rotation frequency at a radial position thereof is calculated. Next, a second rotation frequency at the innermost circumferential position at the current speed is calculated. Next, a third rotation frequency at a radial position where recording is restarted after focus servo recovery is calculated. Next, a fourth rotation frequency at pickup return position at a different speed is calculated. Next, based on the relationship among the first to fourth rotation frequencies described above, a rotation speed at pickup return is selected so that a rotation frequency difference becomes the smallest in all conditions: at pickup return from defocusing, servo recovery after pickup return, and access operation after the servo recovery.

When recording information on an optical disk by irradiating laser light with a specified record power (Pw) to form a train of record pits, the recording is performed while forcing a value (CF) of B/Pw2 to be kept substantially constant, where B is the value obtainable by sample-hold of a reflection light amount upon irradiation of the laser light with the specified record power (Pw). Performing the recording in this way makes it possible to realize the recording quality with increased stability. In addition, upon alteration of a tilt angle, arithmetic processing is redone to thereby achieve the stability-enhanced recording quality.

    摘要: It is desirable to provide a reproduction method having a high operating efficiency in an optical disk unit containing a mass storage memory such as a semiconductor memory. Data to be recorded is recorded on both an optical disk and the mass storage memory. Verify flags respectively corresponding to recording sectors or ECC blocks of an optical disk medium are stored in a control memory. In response to an instruction to reproduce the data, the data recorded on an optical disk is reproduced and verified when the data is not yet verified in reference to the verify flag. When the data has been verified, the data recorded on the mass storage memory is read and outputted to reduce response time, current consumption, and noise significantly. The mass storage memory is mounted in the optical disk unit to contribute to downsizing of a recording and reproduction device.

    摘要: Information is recorded on a rewritable optical disk apparatus in accordance with the second generation 5 inch rewritable-type optical disks standards that provide for reusing once-defective user blocks. Such disks have a user data recording region, a replacement recording region and a replacement control information recording region in which a table of information linking defective blocks in the user data recording region with replacement blocks in the replacement recording region is stored. Continuity of the distribution of the replacement recording blocks is maintained by treatment of replacement blocks that become unnecessary. Unnecessary replacement blocks are ones that are not used for storing data because of the subsequent successful recording of data in once defective user blocks to which the replacement blocks were previously linked. Such unnecessary replacement blocks are treated as being defective if a following assigned replacement block exists in the replacement block recording region and they are used in links with other defective user blocks and assigned replacement blocks. In addition to maintaining continuous distribution of the replacement blocks as required by the second generation standard, fewer replacement blocks are required to be used.
