Abstract:
An error detector for a pseudo-random sequence of digits which automatically provides a true error count regardless of the density and pattern of the received errors. The detector first compares the incoming sequence with a replicated sequence to derive indicated error digits. A corrector then compares the sequence arrangement of all indicated error digits to derive a further sequence of only true error digits. Both the detector and corrector will automatically resynchronize if synchronization is lost with only a few false errors being recorded during the interval.
Abstract:
An interconnector for connecting the latch bars of two or more pushbutton assemblies, particularly as used in telephones. The interconnector is connected to each latch bar and is resiliently urged to a position in which it moves the latch bars to their normal -latching-position. Actuation of any pushbutton, in any row of pushbuttons moves directly its related latch-bar and indirectly via the interconnector all other latch-bars. Thus actuation of any pushbutton will release any other previously actuated and latched pushbutton, irrespective of which row of pushbuttons the previously actuated pushbutton is in. The interconnector comprises an extension on one end of each latchbar, a rod engaging in a formation in each extension, a member pivotally mounted in a frame and carrying the rod, and a spring acting on the pivotally mounted member.
Abstract:
An overlapping die assembly for forming a longitudinal seam in a tube shaped from a continuous tape, in which an annular casing is mountable for free flotation, an annular retainer is freely rotatable concentrically in the casing, and a split die ring is mounted concentrically within the retainer to form a step in the inner circumference of the unit. The step is adjustable in depth and the ring is urged rotationally in a direction outwardly from the face of the step.
Abstract:
An electrically charged tape is slit by first backing the charged tape with a metallized tape, the charged tape in contact with the non-metallic surface of the metallized tape. The combined tapes are then passed over one or more cutters. The charged tape is completely cut through but the backing tape is only cut partially through. Clean cut edges and minimal distortion is obtained, even for very thin tapes.
Abstract:
A flexible armoured cord, as used in pay telephone units, is given an epoxy-resin coating, preferably by a fluid bed process. A very thin uniform coating is applied and averts wear and damage to the telephone unit housing without reducing flexibility of the cord. The coating is extremely abrasion resistant.
Abstract:
A signal selected from a family of signals having different predetermined frequencies is identified, within predetermined frequency limits. In one embodiment a decoder of the digital type is used to decode multiple frequency telephone signalling. A filter separates two signalling frequency signals into upper and lower frequency groups. Each of the signals is counted in upper and lower group circuits and after a predetermined count, to allow for a settling time, upper and lower group timing interval signals are generated. At the end of the time interval the upper and lower group circuits cease to count. In the continuing presence of the signals the counts are decoded to identify the signalling frequency signals received. The use of digital circuitry yields a space and cost saving over previously used analogue circuitry.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for applying insulating discs upon a continuously advancing conductor comprises advancing a continuous chain of discs towards a disc applicator station. First and second means carried by an applicator wheel sever individual discs from said chain and advance the discs along a predetermined path. Slitting means mounted in said predetermined path impart a slit to the disc and an arcuate guide member extending from the slitting means to the conductor enters the slit in the disc and gradually expands the slit to facilitate application of the disc upon the conductor.
Abstract:
An electronic pushbutton dial, which generates dial pulse type signals on a telephone line in response to a digit selected on a pushbutton pad, for signalling step-by-step switching offices. The digit selected is coded and stored in a non-destructive readwrite memory and is subsequently loaded into a presettable counter. A pulse generator is arranged to generate and feed dialpulse-timing signals simultaneously into the presettable counter and to a solid state switch which is in series with the telephone line. The digit selected is transmitted to the central office by interrupting the telephone line current at the dial-pulse-timing signal rate until the count in the presettable counter reaches a predetermined value. The interdigit interval is generated by loading a fixed number into the presettable counter and feeding dial-pulse-timing signals into the presettable counter, while disabling the solid state switch, until the count in the presettable counter again reaches said predetermined value.
Abstract:
An instrument, for measuring the electrical reactance and loss characteristics of a sample, includes a means for applying an alternating electrical signal across the sample and deriving therefrom a voltage signal having a phase and magnitude relationship with the electrical signal, according to the reactance and loss characteristics of the element and a means for synchronously rectifying the voltage signal. An integrator produces an integral of the rectified voltage, the value of which is indicative of the value of one of the characteristics. The measurement is obtained at the end of one or more full cycles of the alternating electrical signal. The instrument is operable over a wide range of frequencies, for example from 0.01 Hz to 100 KHz. It is particularly useful at very low frequencies as it provides measurements more quickly than a typical reactance bridge or phase meter.
Abstract:
Apparatus for correctly registering a transversely corrugated butt strap in position over the butt joint of a corrugated butt joint tube. Strap and tube are passed between guide rolls which progressively force the strap and tube into correct registration -for soldering.
