摘要: Stereoscopic image processing methods and apparatus are described. Left and right eye images of a stereoscopic frame are examined to determine if one or more difference reduction operations designed to reduce the luminance and/or chrominance differences between the left and right frames is within a range used to trigger a difference reduction operation. A difference reduction operation may involve assigning portions of the left and right frames to different depth regions and/or other region categories. A decision on whether or not to perform a difference reduction operation is then performed on a per regions basis with at the difference between the left and right eye portions of at least one region being reduced when a difference reduction operation is to be performed. The difference reduction process may, and in some embodiments is, performed in a precoder which processes left and right eye images of stereoscopic frames prior to stereoscopic encoding.

摘要: System and method for a full featured network communications protocol that is both memory and processor efficient. A preferred embodiment comprises a method for transmitting information between electronic devices, the method comprising creating a connection between a pair of electronic devices, sending a packet between the pair, acknowledging a receipt of the packet by a receiver of the packet, and dissolving the connection when it is no longer needed. The creating of the connection comprises assigning a port number to the connection at an initiating electronic device and then transmitting a connection request containing the port number to a servicing electronic device. After the transmitting, the creating further comprises receiving a second port number to the connection from the servicing electronic device.

摘要: A sample holder is described, for use in centrifugal evaporators, which permits accelerated evaporation of solvents from samples while ensuring that samples from which evaporation is complete are not damaged by overheating. The sample holder is radiantly heated and has sample containers mounted either directly in it, or in intermediate holders themselves mounted in it. The sample holder imparts heat to the samples and has a cross-sectional area chosen such that no appreciable temperature gradient exists between the radiantly or otherwise heated surfaces of the holder and the sample containers. The sample containers are mounted in the holder at an angle between 35° and 65° to the vertical and orientated such that centrifugal force tends to retain the sample material in the containers. The sample holder may be combined with other holders in a stack, the joints between adjacent holders in the stack being adapted to minimize the temperature difference across them.

摘要: A method is described for evaporating liquid samples contained in sample holders mounted within a chamber and rotated by the rotor during an evaporation process in which the pressure in the chamber is reduced below atmospheric and the sample holders are rotated at high speed so as to exert centrifugal force on the contents of the holders. Heat is supplied to elevate the temperature of the liquid component of the samples to assist in the evaporation process. The temperature of the sample material is continuously or regularly monitored during the evaporation process and temperature signals are transmitted to a remote computing means which is programmed to generate a control signal for controlling the supply of heat to the samples and controlling the evaporation process. The temperature may be sensed by a probe in a sample holder containing an evaporating liquid sample, or in an adjoining sample holder containing a buffer liquid. The rotational speed is also sensed and a speed signal conveyed to the computing means. In an alternative method the rate of flow of vapour from the chamber is monitored and a flow rate signal is computed which is also supplied to the computer means and the evaporation process is controlled in relation to the value of the vapour flow rate signal. Improved methods of heating and means for supporting sample holders which are to be heated, to achieve more uniform heating thereof, within an evaporating chamber, are described. Apparatus for performing the various methods is also described.

摘要: A distributed work environment is presented in which a plurality of mobile workers using portable computing devices can gain access to a network via network access stations installed within the work environment. Each network access station is associated with a physical location within the work environment and includes a unique station identifier that may be associated with the physical location. Upon connection to the network, the unique station identifier is provided to a location/association system on the network. Based on the unique station identifier, the location/association system may provide the worker associated with the computing device access to privileges and services associated with the physical location. The computing device may also provide to the location/association system a unique device identifier associated with the computing device and/or the worker's identity. Based on the unique device identifier, the location/association system may provide additional privileges and services in accordance with the worker's specified preferences.
